What should I know about Via Ferrata Canillo?
Via ferrata is the perfect family outdoor adventure and Canillo, in northwestern Andorra, is a great place to head out and climb the ‘iron path’.
For beginners, the half-day Canal de la Mora tour is the perfect starting point. Situated just outside of the city centre, this basic via ferrata is perfect for getting used to the sport and the perfect way to get children out and active.
More experienced via ferrata climbers also have plenty to do as well in the idyllic little town. Just 20 minutes south of the city is Clots de l’Aspra, which is perfectly suited for via ferrata climbers with only a bit of previous experience.
Those looking for a challenge will need to head to Sant Vicenc d’Enclar, 25 minutes southwest of canillo, to put their skills to the test and reap the rewards awaiting at the top.
Why should I choose Canillo for my Via Ferrata adventure?
Everyone can do it
Via ferrata is the perfect addition to any family vacation or outing with friends. It requires very little technical skills and can easily be taught as you go. Andorra is an excellent place to learn the sport due to its great views and plethora of easy and intermediate routes.
Stunning scenery
Canillo is located in an incredibly beautiful valley, surrounded by the Pyrenees Mountains. While the views from the town are truly spectacular, heading up the ‘iron path’ on any of the surrounding peaks is the best way to gain some elevation and get even better views out into the mountains and valleys of this tiny nation.
Come for the culture
When you are not out on the ‘iron path’, spend some time exploring the religious center of Andorra. Visit Sant Joan de Caselles, the most well preserved romanesque church in the Pyrenees. Also, spend some time trying local food and drink in country restaurants and pubs. If you have the time, a visit to the capital is also warranted to see the fusion of modern and traditional architecture.
What can I expect from the weather during my Via Ferrata trip in Canillo?
The summers in Andorra are cool and dry with average daily temperatures of about 24ºC. At higher elevations storms can form quickly, but are not common. Overall, the country doesn’t get much rain in the summer.

Jordi was just great, very helpful and supportive. He quickly analyzed our level and adapted the tour accordingly. He even offered to bring us to an other via ferrata nearby after the introduction tour. Great instructor and guide!
