The West Ridge of Toledo Peak (10,350 ft.) is the perfect route for those looking for an introduction to alpine climbing. It is located in the Wasatch Range (11,928 ft.), which stretches for 160 miles from the Utah-Idaho border south through central Utah, east to Salt Lake City (4,327 ft.).
The course focuses on ice axe and crampon training along a rugged snowy route, leading to a stunning summit, with amazing views of the Wasatch Mountains. The total ascent is of 2,000 feet.
The program will be held from 8AM to 5PM. We will depart on skis or snowshoes from Alta Ski Area, located 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon (5,095 ft.).
During the ascent, I will teach basic snow mountaineering skills such as: the proper use of an ice axe for self-belay; climbing on steep, firm snow; and self-arrest techniques with an ice axe. Upon reaching the West Ridge of Toledo Peak, we will traverse a series of rocky ridge areas and chimneys, reaching a beautiful summit. Guests will learn rock climbing techniques, such as removing rock protection and anchors.
The descent will be down Toledo Bowl, on foot, glissade, skis, or snowshoes, back to Alta Ski Area.
If you would like to get into alpine mountaineering and have no experience, this clinic is for you. Book your course now!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TRIP IS ONLY PROPOSED ON THE DATES LISTED BELOW.
If you are looking for other winter activities for beginners in the area, I recommend the 1-day guided backcountry ski touring clinic and the snow mountaineering day course in the Wasatch Mountains.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.ments needed. As simple as can be!
Easy to set up and find the perfect trip. Informative site that is easy to use. Guides are all great to work with and communicate all arrangements needed. As simple as can be!
