Join me on an epic Via Ferrata adventure in Austria, featuring the iconic "Skyladder" ladder!
This is an all time classic under the via ferrata is the western side of "Dachstein“. It’s highlight is the 40m- huge ladder on which you cross a gorge. This near-vertical climb will challenge your courage and upper body strength. But fear not, the rungs are sturdy, and the safety cables will ensure a secure ascent.
You hike and climb in 4 very different stages from the "Intersport via ferrata“ to the "Großer Donnerkogel“. You’ll find a beautiful adventure with extremely exposed parts by using the skyladder and a stunning view to "Dachstein“.
Once you reach the top, the reward will be nothing short of spectacular. Panoramic vistas will unfold before you, offering a 360-degree perspective of the surrounding Alpine landscape.
Before embarking on this adventure, it's crucial to ensure you have the necessary skills and experience. Previous via ferrata experience is a must, as this route requires proper technique and sure-footedness . You should also be in good physical condition, comfortable with heights, and possess a sense of adventure.
The total time will be 30 min walk to the entrance, 3,5 hours via ferrata, and 1,5 hours way back, with an overall 650m heigh ascent and descent.

If you are looking for an easier via ferrata, you can check this familiy-friendly city wall via ferrata in Salzburg.
Meetingpoint is the Parkinglot "Gosaukammbahn“. We take the cable car to the mountain station and walk about 20 min relaxed to the entrance.
After a beautiful plate crossing we’ll reach the first key point: "Kaiserverschneidung“ (difficulty C/D). We continue easily until we’re at the mountain saddle (first possible emergency exit). Second stage will be some crossings, hikes and climbing until we reach the huge sky ladder. This 40m ladder is the highlight of the tour- no doubt! But in case you feel uncomfortable using it there’s a way around it (C). At this point we find the second emergency exit. We continue our trail passing the "Donnermandl“ (C/D), walking the ridge until the peak of the "Donnerkogel“.
The way back to the cable car will take about 1,5 hours.

Mountain Guide
Growing up in Salzburg's Lungau, Austria, my enthusiasm for the mountains has been rooted in me since childhood.
In winter, I passionately lead my guests on ski tours or show them the best runs while skiing off-piste. In later season I’m guiding in Norway (Lyngen/Senja). And another great passion is ice climbing on frozen waterfalls.
In summer I like to be out and about on rocks and ice in my local mountains but also abroad.
I look forward to go on tour together with you!

The guide was a great person, with wide knowledge and professional. We tried to reach the peak in one day during November and unfortunately we couldn’t. I suggest to start the climb at 4:00am to ensure reaching it before dark

We initialy planned to climb the grossvenediger but the weather conditions were not great. Klaus was very kean to find a good alternative for the group considering our technical level. We climbed the mosermandl and it was beautiful, the whole group loved it, view was amazing and challenge was also there. Klaus was very fun and engaging we definetly would recommend him to any group or friends !

Klaus was epic and challenged us to get out of our comfort zone. Due to really unfortunate circumstances we had to change guide last minute, which left us in the dark as to whether the trip would go ahead. Explore share did sort the issue but it felt like it took a lot of pestering and communication could have been better.
