The Wasatch Mountains, in Utah, are a loved destination for skiers. In fact, they come from around the world looking for the most amazing snow. The backcountry options are endless, the terrain is extremely varied, snowfall is abundant, and the scenery is simply breathtaking! Join me and let’s leave our marks on untracked powder.
In particular, I will guide you in the Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons, famous for their beauty and first class snow throughout the season.
I propose a completely customized ski trip in the Wasatch Range. I will adjust the itinerary and program to meet your goals. Besides enjoying fantastic ski days, you will leave with new skills and know-how.
Whether you are looking for an introduction to backcountry ski, or if you have some or vast experience, this is the place to be!
For beginners of course I plan easier itineraries with short ascents (up to 750 meters in total during the day) and if possible, with some great powder.
If you already have some backcountry experience, I can define a more demanding program chasing the best snow. In general terms, we will ascend up to 1500 meters and ski during up to 7 hours. I like to start in the Little Cottonwood Canyon to then make our way down to the Big Cottonwood, and finally ascend back to the Little Cottonwood again.
And if you are looking for an advanced tour, the opportunities in the Wasatch Range are outstanding! We can ascend up to 2500 meters and spend a long ski day going up and down multiple peaks. I will take you to as many different places as possible in a day.
We will meet at a previously specified location and go over the plan for the day. Before starting the adventure, we will check the equipment and review necessary backcountry techniques. And then we are off for a fantastic ski day! Besides, I will also give you advice on techniques and movement throughout the day.
Tempted to ski in this paradise? Please send me a request! We will discuss your level and you goals for this trip, and I will plan the program accordingly.

The backcountry ski trip with Willie was awesome! He called me the day before the trip to explain where we were going to go and what we were going to do. Given that the weather was going to be cold, he brought along a thermos flask that I could put hot tea in. On the second day, he shared his thermos of hot tea with me since I didn't take the thermos. The snow conditions were a bit variable but Willie did a good job finding some good powder (especially the second day where we were able to ski 18 inches of untracked powder on an east facing bowl). The skinning part on the second day was extremely challenging because it was on a 32-34 degree slope with about 12 inches of fresh powder and it made the kick turns rather exciting. Willie really helped by using his shovel on each of the kick turns to make it a bit easier for me to make the turn. Willie also provided some coaching tips along the way both on the skinning as well as on the skiing part. He was also able to accurately judge what kind of terrain would work for my skill/fitness level and push me to that level! Willie was also a great companion. He has traveled all over the world and has had some interesting experiences which he shared. All in all, I had a really good trip with Willie.
