The Troll Peninsula is a great location for an unforgettable heliskiing and heliboarding trip. Today I invite you to join me for 6 days and enjoy this true paradise for skiers in Northern Iceland.
The mountains in the Troll Peninsula are a perfect mix of open and wide low angled glacier runs and steep faces and couloirs. The highlight of this place is that we are able to enjoy ski runs up to 1300 me all the way down to the sea!
Besides, the Troll Peninsula offers opportunities for skiers of all levels. There are nice and more friendly areas for the first time heli skier and aslo extreme terrain, perfect for experts and advanced riders. Our terrain covers more than 4000 square km of spectacular Arctic mountains.
Also, if you come in the late season, you will enjoy the unique possibility of skiing in the rays of the midnight sun. And if you come to the Troll Peninsula earlier in the season, you will have the opportunity to watch the magical northern lights!
On the first day of the trip, we will meet in Akureyri, in Northern Iceland, and we will transfer to the Klængshóll Lodge, in the Skíðadalur valley. This will be our base for the following 6 days.
The lodge is located right in the middle of the best ski terrain, so we have the opportunity of flying right out of there. Most important, the closest runs are just 3 minutes away from the lodge!
Besides great heliskiing and heliboarding days, we will taste the delicious local cuisine, made by the in-house chef with fresh local ingredients.
I know the Troll Peninsula like the back of my hand, so I will make sure you enjoy the best and safest experience! 2018 will be our 11th season of heliski and heliboard operations. You can check the day-by-day detailed itinerary at the bottom of this page.
Find this heliskiing and heliboarding trip tempting? Then send me a request and book your trip! We will plan together this unique tour in the Troll Peninsula.
If you don't have much time, you can take a look at my 4-day heliski trip. Or you can as well check all the other trips I guide in Iceland.
Arrival in Akureyri in the afternoon. 45 min transfer to Klængshóll Lodge for a meet and greet, guest briefing and dinner. On the first evening, we will discuss the program for the next days. We will make sure all your gear is in order and you will have time to relax after your travels. For those with less time available, meeting on day 2, ready to ski is also possible. This way you can fly in from the USA or Canada and be skiing the same day.
During the following days, it’s time to enjoy first descents, adventure and exploration! You will have the chance to participate in Icelandic skiing history by skiing in areas never visited by skiers before. Evenings are spent at Klængshóll Lodge where we feast on local dishes, based on organic lamb, fish and game prepared by our in house chef. In case of bad weather, we have the unique opportunity to visit for instance Lake Mývatn Nature Reserve with its steaming hot springs, volcanos and lava fields. Go ski touring, whale watching, sea angling or simply relaxing in one of many geothermal baths on the Troll Peninsula.
We pack our bags in the morning and head out for our last day of skiing. After one more day of great turns we have lunch in the field and head home for one last sauna or hot tub session. Then we head back to Akureyri where we can catch a flight to Reykjavik or even connect to the Eastern seaboard that same day.

Mountain Guide
I'm Iceland's first IFMGA internationally certified mountain guide. I'm a member of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides ACMG with whom I finished my certification. I have climbed and skied extensively all over the world, and I lived and worked in both the European Alps and the mountains of Western Canada.
I have brought this wealth of diverse experiences to Iceland and the Arctic North where I have to my name over a hundred first ascents and descents in Iceland and Greenland.
My love of the mountains grew from an early age working as a shepherd on my grandparent's farm on the Troll Peninsula in Northern Iceland. Or maybe it had something to do with my name, which in English would translate directly to Glacier Mountain man.
If you want to discover this beautiful country, please get in touch with me and let's leave together for incredible adventure!
