Welcome to the Piatra Craiului mountain range, this stunning natural landscape is a true Romanian jewel awaiting exploration. If you want excitement and a real hiking challenge then look no further!
Part of the greater Carpathian mountain range, the Piatra Craiului (Prince’s Stone) mountains take shape as a narrow ridge of roughly 25km.
Reaching its highest point ‘Piscul Bacliului’ at 2,238m on Varful La Om mountain, this formation creates an exciting hiking route and provides wonderful views over the surrounding landscapes!
We will be taking the northern ridge of the Piatra Craiului, the actual route itself will be done in one day but we will need one day on either side of the hike in order to approach and leave the site.
Renowned as one of the most picturesque parts of the Carpathians, you will witness rising mountains, deep gorges, winding rivers, alpine forests and much more.
On the first day we will be hiking in to the area in order to reach the start of the trail – Curmatura mountain hut.
The day of the ridge hike we will arise early. Once we reach the ridge, if the skies are clear you will enjoy full sweeping panoramic views.
After reaching the summit of Piscul Baciului (2238m) and enjoying its views, we will descend towards the village of Pestera whilst passing pretty mountain villages on route.
The final day will see us hike out and meet the driver who will escort us back to Brasov. Please see the below itinerary for more trip details.
This will be a long and challenging day of walking. We will need to do scrambling, some technical skills (no technical equipment required) and we must pay attention as we go.
To join this trip you should be an experienced hiker, have a decent level of fitness and be someone who enjoys challenges.

In the afternoon, we’ll have the final preperation for the ridge day; dinner and accomodation will be provided at Curmatura mountain hut.
Early in the morning we’ll leave our hut and start our ascent to the ridge.
Once we arrive at the ridge, during the clear days, we can enjoy all around panoramas.
Walking the ridge will be challendging and demanding.
It will request all our attention, as a long fall is not an option!
We will have to pass some points by scrambling (not technical-climbing equipment is not necessary).
After reaching the highest summit of Piatra Craiului Mountains (Piscul Bacuiliu-2238m), we’ll descend to Pestera village (via grindu refuge, La table, Joaca Saddle).
