Andes
3 Days
Jan - May, Oct - Dec
This is a trekking excursion of three days in Tierra del Fuego, in which we will go from the mountains to the sea. We start from Andes Mountain Range in the area of the Alvear Range to Ojo del Albino Glacier. There we cross with crampons and descend to Esmeralda Lagoon. Then we take south direction and go between Olivia and 5 Hermanos Mountains to address towards Estancia Túnel which is placed on the edge of Beagle Channel. The first night is in a tent and the second in a mountain shelter.
Itinerary:
Day 1:
The beginning of the path is located on the National Rout N3, just a few miles north away from Ushuaia. From there we will cross Carabajal Valley, softly climb along Beban Valley to reach the camp of the first day at the bottom of Agujas del Rino; in the Alvear range (Andes Mountain Range). The first day is characterized by the Andean-Patagonic forest of Lengas, Ñires and Coihues; and by the typical peat moss ground (sphagnum) which covers the large Fuegian valleys that makes a waterproof pair of shoes an essential requirement to face this adventure.
Day 2:
The second day starts going out from the forest to face a soft climbing on a firm ground of rocks which have been eroded by the glaciers. We will reach Ojo del Albino Lagoon, its waters come from the homonym Glacier. Right there and after having lunch we will put on the crampons and walkon the glacier looking for the way down to Esmeralda Lagoon. Then we will take south direction and go through Lasifashaj Valley. In the afternoon we will arrive to a mountain shelter in the beginning of the Olum Valley where we will be able to enjoy the warm heater and have the Argentinean classic Guiso de Lentejas (Lentils Stew) and a red wine before going to bed.
Day 3:
During the third and last day we will continue south direction climbing Olum Valley until the Col between Olivia and 5 Hermanos Mountains from where we will see our objectives: the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia Bay. There on, we will descend to the historic Estancia Túnel which is placed on the edge of the Beagle Channel. Depending on the weather and the group we will try to reach the same day the summit of Cerro Le Cloche.

Pablo was excellent as always and put us in touch with Julian Lopez who organised 4 days of splitboarding in North Patagonia. His knowledge as a guide and as an Argentine were thoroughly appreciated. Highly recommended.

I spent three days on the glaciers above Chamonix with Jeremias at the beginning of July 2015, preparing for a three week tour with him to Patagonia. I cannot recommend Jeremias' guiding highly enough. He is highly expert in everything concerning the mountains and was truly excellent company throughout. I cannot wait to go again!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
