Alps
6 Days
Jan - Apr
Ski touring around Vallée de la Clarée – Nevache in the Hautes Alps is popular among the locals, but not very well known to the others.
Here, just next to the Ecrins Natural Park, Briançon and Montgenèvre, we find a nice ski touring terrain with many options to choose based on the level of the group and the wishes of its members.
This ski touring 6-day program is ideal for skiers who are new to ski touring as well as slightly experienced skiers. However, you will need to be reasonably fit. We will be moving for several hours every day. Apart from that, we will spend a large portion of this time skinning uphill.
Regarding the technical level, you only need to be confident skiing any piste at a ski resort with good control. A little bit of experience in off-piste skiing is very helpful, though not strictly necessary. If you’ve never ski toured before and have new boots, make sure they fit well. You can test them by walking around (boots in walk-mode, buckles loosened) and skiing them in a ski resort.
During these 6 days in Vallée de la Clarée you will enjoy the best rest in the mountain huts of the area. They are really cozy! Besides that, the region is also known for its many hours of sunshine. The combination gives us the basis for some good and eventful days.
At the end of this description you will find the day-by-day of the program in Vallée de la Clarée – Nevache.

We travel to the small village of Nevache and start our ascent to the cozy mountain hut Chalet de Buffere, which we be our home for the next few days. Once there, we’ll have a break and leave a bit of our stuff behind before going out to practice some skills such as searching for a buried avalanche victim and doing kick turns while skinning. If we have time we may go for a small ski tour as well.
Ski touring from the hut. There are many good options, including Créte de Baude, Tour of Créte de l´Echaillon and Lac Cristol, Col de Buffere, Shoulder of Pointe de Buffere and more. We’ll let the conditions and our energy levels decide. If the sun is out, we can relax with a coffee on the patio of the hut in the afternoon.
More ski touring from the hut. We’ll do one of the tours we didn’t do yesterday – or two, if we’re feeling energetic. Back at the hut, we can relax and take a nap before dinner or we can work on some skills such as map and compass, transceiver search or digging a snow profile.
Today we switch to a new hut, the Refuge du Chardonnet. There are several options for reaching the hut: Either we ski a nice forested run back down to the valley, before skinning further up the valley and then ascending to the hut. Another option is to stay high and traverse a couple of mountain passes. Once at the hut, we’ll do a short reconnaissance tour before returning for rest and dinner.
Ski touring from the hut. Again, there are several options to choose from. Some examples are Col du Raisin, Col du Chardonnet, Pic Ombiere, Créte de la Casse Blanche.
On our last day we’ll do one of the tours that we didn’t do yesterday, enjoying our last turns and mountain panoramas. From this last tour, we’ll descend all the way to the valley and then slide along the road back to Nevache.

Mountain Guide
I was born in 1979, grew up in Albertslund, just outside Copenhagen. I started climbing when I was 14 years old and I was immediately gripped by it. In 2000 I became a Rock Climbing Instructor (AK) and shortly after, in 2001, I moved to Canada to go to school - I took a degree in "Adventure Tourism". The real reason I traveled to Canada was the mountains and nature. The years I lived in Canada I used to develop my skills as a climber and alpinist. I also began training to become an international mountain guide. Since I have returned to Europe, where I have spent time climbing, skiing and being on tour. I have also completed my degree and I'm now internationally recognized as mountain guide and a professional working in the various mountain activities. During my years in the mountains, my passion for climbing and skiing have become stronger and stronger. As a guide and instructor, I hope to get the chance to share my passion and experience with you!

Had a fantastic day climbing with Kasper! Ended up climbing in the Utby/Fjällbo area as it was easily accesible by public transportation & closer to where I was staying in Gothenburg. I'm so glad I got a chance to climb with Kasper - definitely my favorite part of my trip to Sweden so far. Highly recommend! Thanks!

Although our time was limited, Kasper made the most of it. He tailored each day's instruction and climbs to my daughter's abilities and interests, encouraged her to challenge herself, and kept safety in focus at all times. Highly recommend.
