4-day hut to hut ski touring tour in the National Park of Mount Triglav, the highest peak of Slovenia, with a guide from the Mitja Šorn Team.

Group

Julian Alps

4 Days

Jan - Apr

Beginner

Description

This ski touring traverse in the surroundings of Mount Triglav is the only real hut to hut ski tour in Slovenia, as many mountain huts are closed during winter.

This trip has the advantage of being off the beaten tracks. In fact, we should not see anybody during the 4 days.

The itinerary goes across the Julian Alps, from Bohinj to Mojstrana. We are at the bottom of the highest mountain of the country: Mount Triglav.

The itinerary goes through the Triglav National Park almost entirely.

You should have some ski touring experience before. But you don't need to be a really good skier to join this tour. We might use crampons and ice axe when going up slopes of 40°. You should be able to go down 30° slopes.

I know the region and the National Park very well. It's a good opportunity for you to leave with a local certified (IFMGA) mountain guide. I will make sure you come back home safely but I will also share with you many stories and information about the area, the local culture, the landscapes and mountains surrounding us during the 4 days.

I invite you to read this nice story about 2 french skiers who joined me for a several days ski tour in winter 2016 in the National Park of Mont Triglav.

Please get in touch with me for any additional information and if you want to book this tour with me (check out the next departure date!). You can also ask me if you want to do a different trip in this region.

Mountain Guide

I am a IFMGA certified mountain guide, ski instructor, and sports teacher.

I believe guides do their best job when they guide in the mountains they are most familiar with. That is one of the biggest reasons why I specialize in guiding in Slovenia. I climb Triglav more than 25 times per year, which means I have climbed the most famous peak in my country around 400 times.

If you want to climb or ski in the Slovenian mountains, I am the right choice. I guide via ferrata, rock climbing, snow climbing, ice climbing, hikes, freeride skiing, and ski touring. Most of my summer work involves climbing Triglav, and most of my winter work involves Triglav and ski touring around it.

Slovenia offers good options for all of these activities, so you are welcome to take a look at my trips and find something for yourself. If you don't find anything, let me know, and I will see if I can help you!

I speak English. Ich spreche auch ein bisschen Deutsch. Parlo anche un po' di Italiano e hablo también un poco de Español.

If I am not available to guide you, one of the super experienced guides in my team will be your guide.

What people are saying about this trip

Martin

Mitja was an amazing guide and especially a great companion on this tour. Mitja was easy to communicate with when planning the trip, well reflected about conditions and honest about best possibilities on how to spend these days in Slovenia. Mitja is a caring character giving all of us a feeling of beeing welcome on the tour. He adjusts his walking & skiing to group capabilities and is flexible with any planning - you get the feeling that it is "your tour". He knows the terrain extremely well and will share a lot of information about the surroundings. He took us to amazing sunsetting spots just next to Triglav Mountain for a last decent of the day and is only one of two guides having stored equipment in the remote mountain hut in the middle of Triglav National Park. Mitja is fun and communicative and easy to get a connection with. However he also leaves space for any character and does not try to "entertain" continuously which we highly appreciated. We can absolutely recommend and to reach out to Mitja for any trip in the Alps and in Triglav National Park especially. All the best from Germany, Lukas & Martin

Our guide was Martin Zumer and Martin did a wonderfull job. Martin's guiding is very professional and you feel always safe and in good hands. On the other hands Martin leaves you enough space to unfold your own abilities and ideas, not controlling more than is necessary for safety reasons. I personaly like this kind of approach. Martin took also great care for us after the touring, cooking in the winter room, helping us finding a good restaurant and accommodation. The whole group of five guests from Austria and Switzerland - all quite experienced and ambitious skiers - had a perfect experience during our four days tour. Thank you Martin!

Mitja has been an excellent guide during this trip. He knows each and every bit of the Triglav park. He also knows how to adapt the route for each group level. Being a quite good group of skiers, he took us into some steeper slopes and increased the overall descent of each day by 500m. So we achieved 1300/1500 and 1900m up during the trip. He has also a good practical sense so it can help to fix any technical problems during the trip. I highly recommend him!

Maxime

Very nice guide for this trip around the triglav mountain! Recommended for nice ski touring, with beautiful landscapes, close to the nature. The guide adapts the route regarding the level of the group.
