Ski touring traverse Frey-Jakob

This 3/4 days ski touring program in the area of Bariloche is a classic traverse that links two huts climbing and skiing down three valleys.

You´ll Meet the guide in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche where you will have a talk about the activities; prepare and check the equipment.

The next day you´ll go to the base of Cerro Catedral, where with your backpack, skis and boots you´ll take a lift that will leave you almost at the top of the mountain, from where you´ll climb with skins until you reach the ”Col del viento” from where you´ll ski down towards Van Titter valley. Then you´ll ascend through the forest up to the Refugio Frey which is at 1700 meters above sea level where we´ll spend the night.

The following morning after breakfast we´ll go over Laguna Toncek (frozen and covered in snow), then climb to Laguna Schmoll and “cancha the futbol” which is at the ridge of Catedral. From there we will descend towards Rucaco valley, then climb to Brecha Negra ridge and descend to Refugio San Martin (Jakob).

On the next day we´ll stay in this area and ski on the mountains which are close to the Refugio like Cerro Cella and Constructores returning to the Refugio to spend another night and on the next day descend along the trail that finishes at the “Tambo” close to the road where the transfer will pick us up.

This is a tentative itinerary. According to your preferences, skiing level and time availabilty, we can do a shorter 3 days program, just going to Frey for a couple of nights, or we can do a longer program, adding nights in Frey or Jakob refuges. The skiing possibilities around and in between both places are endless!
