Ski touring in Qupa, Cordillera Blanca | undefined

9-day ski touring expedition in Qupa, a mountain at 6188 m in the Cordillera Blanca, in Peru, together with an IFMGA Mountain Guide.

Andes

9 Days

Jun, Jul

Description

At 6188 m, Qupa (also known as Copa) is among the highest mountains in the Cordillera Blanca, at the heart of the Peruvian Andes.

The Cordillera Blanca is located in the Ancash Region, in the North of Peru and it’s the highest tropical mountain range in the world. It has sixteen peaks over 6,000 meters. Most of them belong to the protected area of Huascaran National Park.

This is a unique ski touring expedition in Peru. Our main objective during this trip will be to reach the summit of Qupa and ski from there. It is a strong sport challenge.

I love this area because it’s the biggest Andean forest. In fact, it is an excellent area for bird watching.

We’ll start our trip in the city of Huaraz. Then we’ll drive to base camps of Pisco and Qupa, crossing very nice and small Peruvian villages. It is still a traditional area. Actually, the North of Peru is more authentic than the South, which is more massively touristic.

Please contact me if you want to be a part of this 9-day adventure. You can find the complete program below for further details. I’m sure we’ll have an amazing time surrounded by stunning landscapes.

    Itinerary

Day 1 to 2: Acclimatization in Huaraz area.

    2-day hiking.

Accomodation in an hotel in Huaraz.

    Day 3 to 5: Pisco.

The first day we get to the base.

The second day with the moraine.

The third we climb the summit and descend.

Option: it is possible to do it in 2 days. It is tiring but I prefer this option. We can ask the help of porters.

Anyway, it is a very nice ski experience.

This is the goal of our week trip.

The first day we get to the base camp.

The second day we get to the high camp.

The third day we climb the summit and descend to the base camp.

The fourth day we finish the expedition.
