Description

Located in eastern Russia, Kamchatka is a wild, breathtaking place. Filled with peaks and wilderness, this area is a place you will never forget. And, on this trip, which lasts for 12 days, you will get to ski tour through the Ring of Fire in the North Pacific.

Definitely for true adventurers, this nearly 2-week ski touring expedition through Kamchatka will provide you with enough memories to last a lifetime.

The views of the volcanoes are absolutely stupendous throughout Kamchatka. And, on this trip, you will get to do far more than just gaze at the mighty peaks, you will get to ski tour through them.

The volcanoes you will get to explore on this amazing trip include the following.

  • Avachinsky Volcano

  • Koryaksky Volcano

  • Viluchinsky Volcano

Each one of these volcanoes will provide you with a unique, exciting ski touring experience, not to mention unbelievable views.

Due to the adventurous nature of this trip, participants should be experienced back country skiers. You should also have intermediate to advanced level skiing skills and be in good physical condition.

The volcanoes of Kamchatka are tremendous, and on this 12-day trip, you will get to ski tour through several of them. To join me on this trip, please send a request.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arriving to Petropavlovsk, accommodation, meeting with guide. Rest time

Day 2: Drive to the Avachinsky pass, by bus and snowcat, total time about 3 hours. Accommodation in the mountain huts (alt. 900 meters). Ski touring.

Day 3: Avachinsky volcano.

Day 4: Koryaksky volcano.

Day 5: Extra Day

Day 6: Departure early morning, by snowcat. Transfer to Termalny village by bus and after to the Snow Valley mountain hotel by snowmobile. Arrive to the hotel afternoon, lunch, rest time.

Day 7: Viluchinsky volcano

Day 8: Viluchinsky volcano

Day 9: Mutnovsky volcano

Day 10: Mutnovsky volcano

Day 11: Gorely volcano

Day 12: Early morning departure from the hotel to the airport.

Participants should bring the following items: Ski boots (well-fitting, ski-touring boots recommended) Skis or splitboard snowboard Ski poles (adjustable type recommended) Adhesive climbing skins (Fitted to width and length of your skis/board) Backpack capacity: 30-40 litre (2000-2400 cubic Inches) Avalanche probe Snow Shovel Avalanche Transceiver (457 KHz single frequency) Spare transceiver batteries (purchase new ones & check for correct size) Ski goggles Glacier glasses/sunglasses Insulated water bottle (Camelback or other hydration system) Small thermos (optional) All-weather ski pants (Schoeller type fabric) Long underwear, shirt and bottoms (poly-pro/wool blends) Fleece tops and bottoms (wind-stopper) Warm socks (3 Pair) Ski gloves / Mitts / Waterproof Outers (2 pair) Gore-tex outer jacket / parka (with hood) Gore-tex over pants Down/Synthetic jacket (warm, “puffy” type jacket) Neck gaiter/tube Toque (ski hat) Sun hat (baseball cap or sombrero) & bandana Personal first-Aid & blister Kit (second skin, compeed, athletic tape, personal medications, Ibuprofen, etc…) Earplugs Sun block (high SPF rated or zinc-type ointment) Camera & film (spare camera batteries and/or charger for digital cameras, plus USB connector) Repairs & spares kit (for own model of A/T, telemark, or snowboard binding Systems) Personal liquor supply, wine preferably in boxes (due to weight restrictions, beer is available at Lodge) Headlamp or flashlight Reading materials, notebook, pencil, map of Area (small one provided for use)
