Description

The Khibiny mountains are almost unknown to western tourists. This mountain range lies in the Kola Peninsula’s heart, north of the Polar Circle. Its highest point is Mount Udychvumchorr (1200 m). I invite you to join me on an unforgettable 10-day ski touring trip in this spectacular destination in Russia.

The sight of the mountains is unforgettable due to the traces that the Ice Age left, as immense circuses, granite outcrops and canyons remain. Many apatite mines can be found near the town of Kirovsk, which is a downhill ski resort. The inhabitants of Kirovsk are very proud of the botanical garden, which is the most northernmost botanical garden in the whole world.

From February until late April, which is the ski touring season, the temperatures during the day can be 10C. However, the nights are cold, with temperatures reaching -25C. The days are long during this part of the year, making it very pleasant to ski.

On this trip we will go across mountainous and open countryside, where the altitude oscillates between 200 and 1000 metres. We will organise night bivouacs either in heated tents or in huts in the forest areas. As an experienced guide, I will accompany you during this trip and make you discover the beauty and wilderness of this polar environment.

The trip includes some days where you can visit St. Petersburg, which in my opinion is amongst the most beautiful cities in the world.

Does this ski touring trip in the Kola peninsula along with a visit to St. Petersburg sound interesting to you? If it does, then please contact me a request for more information!

I work together with a group of guides, so if I’m not available, one of my colleagues will guide you!
