The volcanoes in Chile's lake district offer infinite white slopes, join me in their exploration!

I invite you to this fantastic 10-day ski touring trip traveling around the famous volcanoes in Chile. It will be a full experience, combining high-quality ski, amazing locations and a rich culture. Plus, the Andes offer an opportunity to ski during the Northern hemisphere summer!

This ski touring trip will be a true adventure, traversing the white volcanoes with amazing views of blue lakes and green forests.

You can find the day to day itinerary below. But I can already tell you, the highlights are of course the volcanoes! We will go to Osorno, Casablanca, Puyehue, Villarica and Lanin. In fact, Villarica is an active volcano, so we have that extra thrill!

I provide private transportation, making is possible to adapt the itinerary due to weather conditions. And note that you can combine this trip with the Ski touring in Chile – Volcanoes and Araucaria trees.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Ensenada

We meet at Temuco airport in the early afternoon. We drive to the village of Ensenada, where we can enjoy the view of Osorno volcano, our first goal.

Day 2: Osorno

First ski day! We drive up to the small ski area in Osorno volcano and ascend the volcanofrom there. Overnight in Ensenada.

Day 3: Casablanca - Estancia el Caulle

Leaving Ensenada we drive up North. We stop at the Casablanca volcano for a short tour. Then we drive to Estancia el Caulle, where we have dinner and spend the night in cabins.

Day 4: Puyehue

We go on horseback to the little refuge on the slopes of thePuyehue volcano where we stay the night.

Day 5: Puyehue: tour to the crater

We ascend the easy slopes of Puyehue and ski into the crater of this activevolcano. The slopes to the crater are marvellous. After a unique crater skiing experience we ski back to the refugeand stay the night there.

Day 6: Pucon

We descend from the hut to the car and drive to Pucon, the village at Villarica volcano.

Day 7: Villarica

We ascend Villarica to its glooming crater where we can hear the lava blubbering. We put the skis on and descend the white slopes. Overnight in Pucon.

Day 8: Lanin

Today we are going to the king of the region, the beautiful Lanin volcano (3700m). We drive over the Argentinian border, register our trip to the park rangers and ascend to a  bivouac hut in the mountain. Overnight in the bivouac.

Day 9: Lanin

We ascend Lanin ski touring. All the way up to this reel roof of the Lake district and 2600m descent back to the car. We return to Pucon and have our farewell dinner there.

Day 10: Transfer to Temuco airport

The tour is addressed to back country skiers who already have some experience and good physical condition. Participants should be conditionally able to perform 5 hours climbs and about 7 hours total touring time on the day. Technically you should master descents off piste up to a slope of about 35 degrees. Mountaineering experience is not mandatory.

Equipment: backpack 30-40L with skis carrying system, glacier equipment (harness, ice axe, crampons, 4 biners, 120cm sling), avalanche safety equipment, skis, climbing skins, ski touring boots, ski crampons, telescopic poles with large plates, technical underwear, touring pants, wind and waterproof jacket (hardshell, breathable) or soft shell jacket (depending on weather), intermediate layer / insulating layer (fleece or insulating jacket depending on weather), well-fitting socks, warm gloves, warm hat, sleeping bag -10°C, sleeping pad, sunscreen and lip protection factor 30, sunglasses, thermos (unbreakable) and water bottle (or both, depending on the tour, weather and preference), passport, identity card, camera, cell phone, charger, credit card, cash in CLP.

Hi, my name is Juho, a mountain guide originally from Finland. I started to guide when I came to Chile end of 2006. I was a living and working in Chile while I took UIAGM guiding cources in Argentina until 2011. Nowadays I am living on the shore of Lake of Constanz on Swiss-German border. ...and guiding from here in the Alps, Northern Scandinavia and in the Andes. I have also a small guiding company in Konstanz.
