Arrival day - Landeck, a small mountain village just 30 minutes from the world famous St Anton am Arlberg. We stay in the historical Gasthof Greif Inn, set in a quiet location yet just minutes from the bustling town. The Inn has a cozy atmosphere, steeped in Tyrolean tradition and offers hearty food in its restaurant. Landeck is linked by train to International airports Innsbruck and Zurick. Evening : Social dinner with your Piste to Powder host and fellow group members. Your host will hand out any safety kit at the meet.
We meet our guide at breakfast for a final briefing and equipment check. We travel by taxi to Ischgl where we can enjoy a few more warm up runs before taking the Piz Val gondola for our Off Piste descent to the Heidelberg Hut. After arriving at the hut we leave our kit before starting our Avalanche safety course and if time allows a short tour before settling back into the hut for a quick hot shower before a hearty dinner. Play cards, or kick back before settling early into our beds for the night.
Today we tour from Heildebergerhütte to the Jamtalhütte via the Kronenjoch pass with the option of bagging Breite Krone summit (3,097m). The day starts early just after breakfast at an easy pace to conserve our energy. En route we stop for short liquid and energy breaks and a pack lunch near or at the peak. Approximately 900vm and around 1,000 metres descent. Overnight at the grand Jamtalhütte, with ice climbing wall, indoor climbing, hot showers and plenty of good food.
Today we will have lots of options for touring - either with a daypack from the hut bagging some extra peaks or diverting to Tuoi hutte if conditions allow. Choice of peaks include Hintere Jamspitze (3,156m) of Gemspitze (3,110) if returning to Jamtal for second night and maybe have a go at ice climbing!
Today we head to Wiesbadenerhütte set into stunning landscape and one of our personal favorite huts. We tour up and over Ochsenscharte with an option to bag Dreilanderspitze (3,197m). Overnight at Wiesbadener.
Final day in the Silvretta - after an early start we tour for our last incredible descent from Rauchkopfsharte before traversing back to Galtür. After a final lunch at one of the mountain restaurants we take a taxi back to Landeck to our pension for the final night and to enjoy dinner with new friends, recalling our big adventure.
What fitness level do I need for this Silvretta skiing trip?
You need to be of a good fitness level, with basic core strength and aerobic fitness. You will be carrying a rucksack all day, which will contain lunch and water, clothing, crampons and ice axe. The pace for climbing is averaging 300m/900ft height gain per hour. The pace is suited to the group’s fitness level. The best way to warm up is by ski touring – please ensure you have already worn in your ski touring boots, as it is very common with new or rental boots to develop blisters.
What ski touring experience do I need?
You need to be able to ski Off Piste confidently and in control, however the ski terrain is very gentle so you do not need to be an expert. You need not have any ski touring experience that said if you don't we recommend you join one of our intro to touring 3 day workshops or join our warm up tour the day before in St Anton on Sunday. (extra €165).
What safety gear do I need?
The basics are a modern digital 3 antenna transceiver, Shovel (not plastic), probe. An ABS pack is optional - if you are keen to use one there are some new lightweight packs on the market, the lighter the better! You do need a helmet but when touring up you can attach this to your pack.
What else do I need to pack?
Goggles and wraparound sunglasses as you will be on a glacier eye protection is very important. High factor suncream for face and exposed skin recommend factor 50
First Aid Kit – your guide will have a full first aid this but bring compede for blisters, small tube of aloe vera for sunburn and moisturising, (serves also as a foot balm), medicinal products if needed (please also inform your guide)
energy bars or dried fruit and nut packs work very well. You can also buy bars in the huts.
Something to drink, for longer day trips: 1.5l water carrier minimum, or camelbak and a thermos is useful as you can fill this in the huts with special energy tea!
hydration salts and magnesium tablets are very handy
Credit card, cash, insurance details (scan these also to your phone)
Spare battery pack or quick charger for phone (your phone goes down quickly in the cold),waterproof case or bag to protect phone

With a great bluebird day, I enjoyed skiing off-piste on deep powder with useful technical tips from Alex who is a professional off-piste guide always paying attention on different terrain in case of any potential risk. All team members in the group had an unforgettable memory of powder skiing in St Anton. Really an exciting and lovely day. Definitely Highly recommended!!

Our guide Thomas did a great job to make it an enjoyable day despite the conditions not being so great. We learnt a lot about safety which was good to learn from someone so knowledgeable. We had a fun time, definitely recommend joining the snowboard group. Super easy to book and organise.
Matthias and Flo found amazing powder snow with no people on the busiest week if the year. Zoe did a great job communicating with us to find guides at the last minute.
We had two great off piste days with Florian from piste to powder, as our guide. Florian got the balance just right for our family (including two children aged 14 and 10). We skied some great off piste routes, including some steeper terrain and we also did some fun tree skiing, accessing places we would not have been able to reach on our own without a guide. Two excellent days. I would highly recommend Piste to Powder, and in particular our guide Florian.
My friend and I (both snowboarders with several backcountry trips under our belt) had a private guide for the day after 150cm+ snowfall and severe avalanche conditions. Our guide Stefan was excellent and very aware of reading the risk levels throughout the day. We got some amazing lines and Stefan was very professional and easy to talk to and guided us away from some of the riskier places. Would definitely recommend to all. We will definitely come back next year. Thank you!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
