Ski mountaineering day in the Dolomites: Marmolada, Punta Penia

Follow me on this adventure to Marmolada, the top of the Dolomites, and enjoy ski mountaineering in a fantastic natural area.

Set in northeastern Italy, Marmolada is the highest mountain in the Dolomites. Its tallest summit, Punta Penia, has an altitude of 3,343 meters and it’s where I invite you to go on this ski mountaineering day. The present program offers different points of interest. It allows us to take part of a demanding activity while we explore a stunning natural area. Also, it sets the challenge of reaching the tallest peak in the Dolomites.

Our program will begin in the Fedaia Pass, a beautiful mountain pass at the base of the Dolomites from where we can contemplate the Fedaia Lake. According to the season, we’ll take the cestovia or follow its route. From this point, we’ll reach a valley and start the climbing section of the trip. Afterwards, we’ll continue our hike to the highest point in the range. Finally, we’ll enjoy the descent through the same route.

Please, keep in mind that this itinerary is for advanced participants with prior ski mountaineering experience and a very good level of fitness. During the program, we’ll face an elevation gain of around 1,200 meters.
