The best way to get introduced to the world of mountaineering is by going to the mountains and learning by doing. And on this 5 day intro to mountaineering course, that is exactly what you will be doing. We will guide you through a number of different techniques and lessons in the beautiful mountains of Alaska, near the town of Skagway.
Famous for its mountaineering, Alaska is the perfect place to learn the skills necessary to enjoy a long and fruitful mountain climbing career. Many people view mountain climbing as a calling, something they want to do whatever they have the chance, anywhere they can, for as long as they can. Thus why learning the skills necessary to do it properly and safely is so vital.
We have put together our program with care, making sure we cover a wide range of important lessons for you. And at the end of each day’s session, we will take you back to Skagway, where you can rest and recharge in your hotel before the next day’s climbing.
Some of the skills and techniques we will cover include the following:
How to use crampons and ice axe
How to properly tie a rope
Proper knot tying
Belaying with fellow climbers
Crevasse rescue
Navigation
Anchor building
Hazard and risk assessment
During this course, you will be constantly in the mountains, learning by doing. We feel that is the best way to improve. Also, you will get to admire the gorgeous Alaskan landscape every minute of every day during this course.
So if you want to learn the skills needed to expand your mountaineering repertoire, send us a request, and come to Skagway. We will make sure you leave ready to enjoy one of what could be many future mountaineering adventures.

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
