Short hike from Eira do Serrado to Curral das Freiras (Valley of the Nuns), Madeira

There are a number of great hiking options on the Portuguese island of Madeira. And on this trip, which lasts approximately 2 hours, we would like to guide from the Eira do Serrado to the Curral das Freiras, otherwise known as the Valley of the Nuns.

This trek will cover approximately 2 kilometers. It will begin to the right of the Eira do Serrado hotel. From there, we will follow a downhill path to the Curral das Freiras. The path we will be taking zigags through rows of chestnut trees before opening up and exposing you to some spectacular views of Madeira. When you reach the village of Curral das Freiras, you will get to enjoy some wonderful food and drinks, as well as talk to the lovely people that call the area home.

The path we will be taking is called the Nuns path. It got its name because many years ago nuns used it to escape from visiting pirates to the island.

Due to the shortness of this trip, it is not very challenging. As a result, no experience is necessary. However, you should be in good enough physical condition to maintain a steady pace.
