Day 2: Anthony Quinn's Bay

Be ready to be blown away by the clarity of the water, its amazing colours and the magnificent bays in the area of our first Sea Kayaking Tour.

On today’s  ‘to do’ list are Anthony Quinn’s BayLadiko Beach, a couple of sea caves to explore and a beautiful area known as Traounou where we enjoy a well-deserved homemade picnic lunch.

Plenty of time is allocated on our stop here to go snorkelling to explore the rich environment of the sea in this area, swim and even cliff jump for those inclined.

Miles: 6.5

Duration: 5 hours

Actual Paddling time: 2.5 hours

Οvernight stay on Rhodes

Day 3: Haraki

Today on our Sea Kayaking Tour we start from a more southern point on the East Coast, a charming fishing village named Haraki. The scenery here is completely different from our day before and never ceases to amaze – for different reasons to yesterday! Life just keeps getting better! On today’s ‘to do’ list we tick off the Medieval Castle of Feraklos, the golden sandy beach of Agathi and the unspoilt gem of Rhodes known as Red Sand Beach. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a similar ‘to do’ list back at home?

After time to swim, snorkel and relax, a BBQ will be quietly calling for your attention with its mouth-watering aromas in our peaceful picnic spot right by the sea.

Miles: 5.5

Duration: 5 hours

Actual Paddling time: 2.5 hours

Οvernight stay on Rhodes

Day 4: Symi

Day 4 of 8 Days Sea Kayaking in the Dodecanese finds us on the local ferry to Symi – the most picturesque of the Dodecanese Islands.

From your first glimpse of this island to the last you will without a doubt find it hard to get enough of this beautifully unique island.

Our Sea Kayaking Tour starts straight away in Gyalos – right next where we have disembarked from the ferry not moments before. No need to worry about your personal belongings and luggage as everything will be automatically transferred to tonight’s accommodation.

Our destination for today is St George Disalonas bay – an area only accessible by boat. The magnificent rock face behind the beach, completes its unique and breathtaking scenery. We indulge ourselves, swimming in its clear turquoise waters and top it all off with a delicious BBQ next to the chapel of St. George.

Tonight we stay in Pedi – a true paradise for those seeking peace and serenity! If you are interested in some evening exploration of Gyalo, Symi’s main town, it’s just a short walk away!

Miles: 8.5

Duration: 7 hours

Actual Paddling time: 3.5 hours

Ferry trip: 1 hour

Οvernight stay on Symi

Day 5: Simi- Rhodes

An early breakfast is recommended today on day 5 of our Sea Kayaking Tour to make the most of the colours of the morning sky and the peace and quiet of Pedi beach. After deliciously refuelling we set off on our next kayaking session. Marvelling at the amazing views of the colourful houses of Gyalos and Nimporios before reaching Nimos Island – a stone’s throw away from Symi!

Nimos is an uninhabited island and as a result has goats aplenty.

Today we enjoy our leisurely lunch, served in the courtyard of Panagia Ipakoi’s small church.

In the afternoon, it is sadly time to say goodbye to this little rocky paradise and catch the ferry in order to get ready for our next unique paddling adventure!

Duration: 5 hours

Actual Paddling time: 4 hours

Ferry trip: 1 hour

Day 6: Kastellorizo

Day 6 of 8 Days Sea Kayaking in the Dodecanese sees us on our longest ferry ride to the most eastern point of the Greece.

Kastellorizo, Castello Rosso or Megisti as it is also known– awaits for us to explore it!

This tiny island has the most amazing hidden sea cave ever found in Europe. Amazingly it is 40 – 50 metres long, 25 – 30 metres wide & 20 – 25 metres high. Through its tiny entrance, we paddle in, and explore this amazing blue grotto. The light of the sun reflects in the interior of the cave, thereby producing a dazzling azure colour. Words cannot describe the scenery – we can only hope our photos will! Today we are not alone as sea turtles abound in this area, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!

After our visit, it is again time to indulge in a delicious lunch, this time in the quiet village of Kastellorizo, overlooking the Turkish Coast. After our leisurely lunch we head back to Rhodes.

Miles: 7

Duration:  4 hours

Actual Paddling time: 3 hours

Ferry trip: 4 hrs & 40 minutes (round trip)

Οvernight stay on Rhodes

If, in any case, since the day trip to Kastellorizo can be operated only once a week, the weather is not suitable to paddle, we will change Kastellorizo for Halki.

Alternative Day’s description : Today we will start from the small port of  Kamiros Skala in the morning, from where we will depart by boat to Halki. After about an hour of sailing in the Aegean Sea, we will approach this small island that manages to enchant every visitor. In 1983, UNESCO designated Halki as the “island of peace and friendship.

After disembarking from the boat, we will begin with our sea kayaks the exploration of the coastline – from Emporios to Ftenaya, Pontamos, the peninsula under the Medieval Castle of the Knights of Agios Ioannis and Trachia beach. Today we are not alone as seals & dolphins abound in this area, so be sure to keep an eye out for them! . We will have many opportunities for diving and exploring the seabed as well as for walks in the beautiful settlement of Halki after our return to the port. After our visit, it is again time to indulge in a delicious lunch, this time in the quiet village of Emborios, overlooking Alimia. After our leisurely lunch we head back to Rhodes. At the afternoon the ship will depart from Halki towards Rhodes.

Miles: 7

Duration:  4 hours

Actual Paddling time: 3 hours

Ferry trip: 2 hours (round trip)

Day 7: Lindos

Today our Sea Kayaking Tour sees us back on Rhodes for your last kayaking experience in 8 Days Sea Kayaking in the Dodecanese. Now we get ready for some truly picture-perfect postcard moments in Lindos – the timeless gem of Rhodes Island. Small, quaint whitewashed houses are juxtaposed against its pink bougainvilleas, beautiful blue waters, golden sandy beach and ancient Acropolis at the top of the hill. What more could one want for the ultimate setting? It truly feels like a live postcard as you first set your eyes on it! On today’s “arduous” ‘to do’ list are also St Paul’s bay and Navarone Bay.

No trip would be complete without lunch at a taverna there to soak in the spectacular views while relaxing and rejuvenating and there is obviously an optional visit to the archaeological site of the Lindian Temple of Athena if you feel so inclined.

In the evening, we fondly look back over our trip together and enjoy a final farewell dinner (For full package version).

What people are saying about Trekking

Cecile

A wonderful experience! We were two people and we hiked several parts of the Menalon trail (self- guided) with Trekking Hellas. The reservation process was smooth. The office staff were very helpful and polite. They responded quickly to all our requests and helped us tailor the hike to our great satisfaction (Thank you Theodore for the patience!). After finalizing the trip details and completing the full payment- we got a detailed description of the trip with all the necessary contacts, including a very useful gpx file of the trail. In the hike itself, everything went smoothly. On the first day we met a guide, who gave us a map of the trail, and advised us about the trail. The company was responsible enough to tell us in advance about part of the trail that was wrecked during the winter (they even pre-arranged a taxi that waited for us in the middle of the hike and transferred us to a nearby point). The villages we arrived at were beautiful (We especially like Dimitsana and Vytina. The hotels were lovely, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. One final tip: The hikes are great but they are not easy. We highly recommend that you read the trail specifications in advance and choose to walk only the parts that fit your needs. In some cases, the advised hikes may be too long. For example, day 3 of the suggested itinerary includes roughly 19.1 km (Dimitsana- Zygovitsi-Elati). Given that the trail is ascending and descending - this means a very long day. We only walked Zygovitsi-Elati (15km; enough for us), but we met a family who did walk the entire path and walked for 11 hours on that day. While it is doable, we recommend that you make your choices in advance -so that the you enjoy your vacation. We wish you a nice stay in Greece. According to our experience, with Trekking Hellas you are in good hands. This not the first time we booked tours with Trekking Hellas, and probably will not be the last. Highly recommended!

The Menalon trail is a very nice and versatile walking path of about 75km in center Greece. We decided to take the self guided trek offered by Trekking Hellas because it saved us the burden of searching for accommodations along the path, and also they take care of transferring our luggage from hotel to hotel, so we can carry minimum weight when walking. I must say our experience was great. We got prompt support before and during the vacation. All arrangements worked perfectly. Every hotel owner knew us and prepare a nice lunch box for the day walk, so we did not have to think about that as well. All hotels selected where highly rated ones. This not the first time we booked tours with Trekking Hellas, and probably will not be the last. Highly recommended!

Our first time with Explore-Share. An absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Extremely good value, very well organised with attention to detail. We travel widely and this has by far been the best of experiences. Well done to all concerned. We are already looking at booking another trip!
