Ice climbing is a fascinating sport in which skills, strength and adventure come together. The valleys around Schladming offer many waterfalls for all level of climbers, from easy to difficult ones.
During this 3-day ice climbing course in Schladming you will learn:
The basics of top rope climbing;
How to set the first ice screws;
The handling of technical equipment.
In addition to the climbing and safety techniques I’ll also focus on abseiling. It will be practiced several times during the course. Finally, you won’t go back home without learning how to detect avalanche catchment areas. As you can see it will be a really intensive course!
All this technical content will be put into practice on the frozen waterfalls of Schladming. You’ll count on my help and constant supervision. That way it will be a really enriching experience for you.
Regarding the accommodation, we will rest, have dinner and sleep at Fam Rettensteiner, in our 2 apartments or in a mountain hostel of the region.
This course can be run for a maximum of 4 participants. I’m running this program once a year during specific dates. I can also organize it for private groups. All you have to do is filling out the form and be in touch with me.

Equipment Needed: hiking boots or ski touring boots • crampons and ice ax (can be rented in a sports shop on site) • sticks • snowshoes (can be made available if required) or ski touring equipment • avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe (can be made available if required) • harness, 3 HMS carabiner, 2 long slings, climbing helmet • mountain backpack of 25 - 35 liters • ski touring trousers • Warm jacket • gloves, mittens, hat • sunglasses, snow glasses • sunscreen • Bottle • Good functional underwear.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger.
