Description

Are you ready for an exciting eight day trek in the mountains of Peru? Join me on this adventure in the Cordillera Blanca!

Cordillera Blanca means white range in English. It is a world-famous mountain range that is part of the Andes Mountains. Cordillera Blanca has several massive peaks that stand over 6,000 meters tall. There are also over 700 glaciers in this mountain range alone.

The Cordillera Blanca is one of the places in the world where you can experience both tropical and ice-covered scenery. Here we will find the largest concentration of ice in all of Peru.

We will begin our tour in the city of Huaraz. Huaraz is a very important city for winter sports and adventure. People come from all around the world to practice climbing, hiking, biking and snowboarding.

From Huaraz, we will travel to Cashapampa where we will meet our donkey drivers. These donkeys will accompany us on trek, taking some of the load off of our backs.

The highlight of this trek will be our summit of Pisco. This amazing mountain is over 5,000 meters tall. From such a great height, we will be met with an amazing 360 degree panorama view of the spectacular Cordillera Blanca. We will be able to look out over the Huandoys, the Chacraraju, Pirámide de Garcilaso, Artesonraju, Alpamayo and Huascarán.

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz- Cashapampa- Llamacorral

We will leave Huaraz around 7 AM from your hotel and drive along the callejon de Hualas until we reach Cashapampa. Here, we will meet our donkey drivers. We will prepare our packs then start hiking. We will hike to our first campe at Llama corral where we will stay overnight.

Day 2: Llamacorral- Taullipampa

We will start the day with an Andean breakfast at our campsite. We will hike along the valley and see the beautiful lakes of Ichicocha and Jatuncocha. We will have lunch in a nice place called Quisuar, then we will go up to the Alpamayo south base camp. We will take some pictures and enjoy the view then hike to our next camp called Taullipampa.

Day 3: Taullipampa- Huaripampa

We will start hiking around 7 AM. We will hike up for 3 hours in a zig zag path to the Punta Union pass. Here we will have spectacular views from the mountains like Paria and Taulliraju. We can also see the beautiful lake of Taullicocha then hike down to Morococha lakes. Next, we will arrive at Cachinapampa Camp.

Day 4: Hauripampa- Vaqueria- Llangnuco- Cebollapampa

We will hike along the valley down to Hauripampa then turn to the right side to climb for above 40 minutes to Vaqueria. Here, our minivan will meet us and take us to Huaraz through Portachuelo Llanganuco Pass. We will drive through quinoa forests and meadows and pass the lovely Llanganuco Valley. We will also be able to see some big mountain peaks. We will continue down to camp at Cebollapampa.

Day 5: Cebollapampa- Pisco Base Camp

We will start our climbing program and meet our donkeys who will transport our gear as we climb up the well-marked trail to Pisco Base Camp where we will have overnight.

Day 6: Base Camp- Moraine Camp

We will ascend through the moraine field as we continue to our next stop at Moraine Camp. This day, our donkeys cannot join us so we will need to carry our packs as we climb up for 3 hours.

Day 7: Moraine Camp/ Pisco Summit Base Camp

We will start very early at around 2 AM to ensure that we get the prime snow conditions. We will climb for about 40 minutes on moraine until we reach the glacier where we put on our climbing equipment. From here, we will use crampons and rope up. We will climb for approximately 5 hours on the glacier until we reach Mount Pisco summit where we will have amazing panoramic views. We will then descend down to our base camp where we will camp for the night.

Day 8: Base Camp- Cebollapampa- Huaraz

We will have our last breakfast in the highland, then pack up camp and descend down to the winding road to Cebollapampa. Our private transfer will join us and bring us back to Huaraz. From there, we will have transfers direct to our hotels.

We had such an amazing time on this Trek! From the beginning to the end we had wonderful service through “Wild Huayhuash - Tomas Operator”. It is an amazing, beautiful, take your breath away hike. The guides are knowledgeable, kind, and extremely helpful. We had guide/cook Rosmel, guide Angel, operators Edgar and Tomas. Rosmel made us food every day(breakfast, lunch, snacks (popcorn), and dinner), woke us up to a fresh cup of tea every morning in our tent, and guides us through the first few days of our hike. He was like Superman carrying our lunch on his back every day of the trek (think heavy food in pots, with juice). Angel was the guide the rest of the way through the trek and was also very kind and professional. He was funny, paced us well through the hard sections, and let us have breaks whenever we needed. Both Rosmel & Angel were always working to get us to the best viewpoints, and best camping spots first, before the other groups. They also both helped when I had an asthma attack during the trek. From the operator side, Tomas and Edgar were amazing. Going through all the information we would need, allowing us to leave extra things in their office, allowing us to rest and shower in one of their rooms at no extra charge when we got back from the trek, and Edgar helped us find a map of Huayhuash so we could document our journey when we got back (finding a map of Huayhuash in Huaraz was not easy). This was a well put together group, and always seemed to be one step ahead of the other Huayhuash trekking groups. I highly recommend!
