DETAILED TREKKING PROGRAM

DAY 1 – Huaraz – Llanganuco – Vaqueria – Cachinapampa

Departure by private car to the hamlet of Vaqueria (about 4 hours driving). The road goes through a succession of impressive hairpin turns in the deep valley of Llanganuco, home to two superb lakes. On the road we cross the pass of Portachuelo (4767 meters), the grandiose panorama of Huascaran, Huandoy, Pisco, Chopicalqui and more other peaks … Meeting with our muleteer and departure for the trek. We will start with a short descent followed by a nice rise in the long valley Huaripampa. On the way, we can admire the impressive east face of Nevado Chacraraju (6001 meters). We cross successively villages and cultivated fields. Camp setup at Cachinapampa, facing the imposing Nevado Taulliraju (5830 meters).

DAY 2 – Cachinapampa – Taullipampa

Quiet departure through a beautiful forest of quenoals (Polylepis sp.). Then sustained climb through the small lakes of Morococha, to the Punta Unión pass (4760 meters), the highest point of our trek. A beautiful view of a few giants of the Cordillera will crown our efforts! Then down on the western slopes of the Cordillera. Camp setup at Taullipampa, where abound the wild lupines (tawlli means lupine in Quechua).

DAY 3 – Taullipampa – Base Camp Alpamayo – Llamacorral

Continuing our descent in the beautiful Santa Cruz valley, passing by Ichikcocha and Jatuncocha lakes (respectively “lake” and “large lake” in Quechua). Glacial peaks (all above 6000: Artesonraju, Quitaraju and Santa Cruz) are revealed gradually. Those of you who wish can make a small detour to the base camp of Alpamayo. We will install our camp at Llamacorral.

DAY 4 – Llamacorral – Cashapampa – Huaraz

We leave broad grazing areas to follow the course of a torrent in a very deep valley: well sheltered and enjoying a temperate micro-climate, the vegetation is dense and varied. Arriving at the village of Cashapampa late morning where our private vehicle will be waiting for us. Return to Huaraz in the mid-afternoon (about 3 hours driving).

    Magno

    Mountain Leader

I'm Mountain guide AGMP (Peru) since 1982 and IFMGA (international) since 1988. Technical Director of AGMP (Association of Mountain Guides of Peru) since 1996, I train future mountain guides.

I started as a porter helping my father in an expedition he organized in 1976. During my first expedition, it did not know anything about mountain, I had to do my first rescue because a client got sick. It has been a hard work to evacuate him because the motorway still did not get to Quebrada Honda.

I've organized numerous rescues in the mountains and the Amazon jungle and participated in scientific missions on behalf of American glaciologists as Lonnie Thompson. Familiar of the Alps and the Himalayas, the mountain ranges of Peru have no secrets for me.

Mountains are nice worldwide and give you good memories, but if I had to keep one expedition, I would take one in the Cordillera Blanca, Huandoy (North Face) or Yerupajá maybe.

What I prefer in this job is keeping learning new knowledge, nice life standard, travel and know the world and of course knowing people and cultures. I also like helping in the training of new guides.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

    Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

    Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
