Sainte Victoire, located close to Aix en Provence, is one of my favourite mountains to go rock climbing. I enjoy very much bringing my friends and clients there for a day. It is just next to my hometown so I know the place very well!
I like this climbing spot because it provides a great mix between the lovely atmosphere of La Provence and the alpine environment. The quality of the limestone is amazing and the colors make the place unique. The landscapes surrounding the mountain have inspired the famous painter Paul Cézanne.
During the winter, when reaching the top of Sainte Victoire (1000m), you might see on one side, the snow-capped mountains of the Alps and on the other side, the Mediterranean sea.
I guide there climbers of all levels: beginners as well as experienced mountaineers. Routes’ difficulty level goes up to 6b. The way up can be adapted based on climbers’ level.
Les Moussaillons might be ideal for those who already have some climbing experience and wish to try their hand at a multi-pitch route. It is 400 meters long and has a 4c-5a grading.
Le Grand Parcours is a great multi-pitch route for more skillful climbers. It is also 400 meters long with a grading of 5c.
With the very beginners, I’ll plan an itinerary that mixes rock climbing and hiking, using the rope up to the summit.
I recommend that you avoid the Summer months because of the heat. The best period to climb in Sainte Victoire is from mid September and mid June.
Feel free to send me a request and let’s start planning a great day together! I’ll pick you up in Aix en Provence and we will drive together to the bottom of the mountain.

My experience in Aix-en-Provence was completed by getting to climb les Calanques near Marseilles. Laurent is an incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and down-to-earth guide. He was encouraging of my climbing ability and patient with me learning climbing-specific French. Along with the breathtaking views of the surrounding water, there is a wonderful cave through which we set up a rope. After climbing, I went for a refreshing swim too! The location, climbing, and guide were all stellar.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
