In the Alps there is an abundance of gorgeous peaks. But many of those peaks look too big and too intimidating for somebody without a lot of climbing experience to climb. However, the Testa del Rutor mountain (3,468m) in the Aosta Valley in Northwest Italy is a great peak for beginners looking to get into the world of climbing.
Some of the highlights of the Rutor include the nearby Mont Blanc Massif, the Vanoise Massif and the enormous Glacier del Rutor that lies on the mountain's slopes. Another interesting highlight of this mountain is that while not too crowded with climbers, which will make this trip a relaxing, less pressure filled experience, it is used for training by Italy's elite mountain corps, the Alpini.
On the first day of this trip, we will walk for 2 to 3 hours to the Deffeyes Refuge (2,494m). On the second day, we will make the ascent to the peak's summit. The ascent and descent should take approximately 7-8 hours.
The Rutor mountain might not be the first mountain you think of when you think about the Alps. However, once you behold this wonderful peak and stark climbing it, I know you won't forget it. So send me a message if you want to join me on this 2 day trip that is perfect for mountaineering beginners.
And if you are looking for a longer, more challenging climbing trek in the Italian Alps, I can also lead you on this 5-day adventure to the top of Monte Rosa.
