Description

Frey Valley, very close to Bariloche, is one of the most visited rock climbing spots in Patagonia. Due to its high quality granite spires, magical landscapes and interesting history, climbers from all over the globe come here during summer time to enjoy the best tradicional climbing activities.

Frey Hut is a really cozy refuge in the middle of the valley, where you won’t only rest after a hard day in the rocks. Here you will also enjoy fun and nice moments surrounded by a multi-cultural atmosphere. Good food and draft beer guaranteed!

Going rock climbing around the Frey Hut is usually an interesting acclimatization option before attempting bigger goals in other corners of Patagonia, like Fitz Roy in El Chaltén. In addition, Frey offers multi-pitch climbing routes for all levels with a short approach and of course, breathtaking views.

Our starting point will be the Cerro Catedral ski resort’s parking lot. We’ll ascend by ski lifts and start hiking into a deep Lenga forest, until we reach the Frey Hut. Depending on the technical level and preferences of the group we’ll spend the next 5 days exploring the endless granite options around the refuge.

If you want to live a superb rock climbing warm up before other alpine challenges in the area, this is your chance. Contact me now by clicking on the green button!

Mountain Guide

I´m based in Bariloche, Patagonia, where I guide full time, mostly technical custom trips with small groups.

I started guiding in 1998, and my job took me all around the globe. In Montana, USA, where I lived for many years I worked extensively in the Rockies, guiding in the Tetons, Wind Rivers, and the Beartooths. Back to Argentina, I spend most of my time ski guiding volcanoes, rock climbing at Frey and mountaineering in Chalten and Tronador.

The rest of time I work as a Technical director at the AAGM, forming new guides, and trying to be an exciting dad for my two kids, taking advantage of the great backyard we have at home!
