Situated in the heart of the Purcell Mountains, the Bugaboos are the perfect place for a week-long alpine climbing adventure!
These granite spires are one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in eastern British Columbia and we are going to find out why!
The adventure begins after we meet up in nearby Golden or Invermere and drive out to the trailhead. The next 3 to 4 hours will be spent hiking through the Bugaboo's spectacular alpine scenery, before we reach the mountain hut.
The hut is ideally located in the Bugaboos and will provide us access to a variety of rock climbing options, from 5.6 to 5.10a single-pitch crags to 20-pitch ascents.
Over the course of the week, we will climb the Ears Between route on Crescent Tower and get a nice introduction to the rock as well as the scenery.
We'll follow this up with ascents of Bugaboo Spire and Snowpatch Spire, with the option available, for those who have an extra day to spare, to cross the Vowell Glacier and climb Pidgeon Spire.
Regardless of where we go, we're sure to enjoy plenty of incredible and high-quality climbing. The area is renowned for its pristine granite cracks and incredible alpine crags.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this unforgettable week-long alpine climbing adventure in the Bugaboo Mountains!
If you like the look of this trip then I think you may also enjoy my 4-day ascent of the Diamond on Long's Peak in Colorful Colorado!
After meeting up, we will check out all of our equipment and go over the plan, before driving to the trailhead and enjoying a very scenic 3 to 4-hour hike to the Konrad Kain Hut.
We will climb the Ears Between (5.7) route on Crescent Tower, which serves as a nice introduction to the area.
We will climb the northeast ridge of Bugaboo Spire (5.8), enjoying phenomenal views out over the provincial park, before descending back down via the Kain Route and returning to the mountain hut.
We will head out for a day of scrambling or cragging.
We will once again enjoy a long day of climbing, heading out to Snowpatch Spire and going up via the Snowpatch route (5.8) or Sunshine Cracks (5.11a).
If you have the time to extend the trip, we can climb across the Vowell Glacier up to the West Ridge of Pidgeon Spire (5.4) before hiking back out and returning to town.
