Would you like to discover some of the best crags in Japan? Then let me take you rock climbing in Tokyo and I will show you some of the most amazing granite, limestone, and volcanic rock near the Japanese capital.
Japan is famous for its amazing rock climbers. One of the reasons is that there are many outstanding crags near Tokyo, just a train ride away from the city. Additionally, there are 40 climbing gyms in Tokyo proper to make up for bad weather and work on acquiring new skills. Furthermore, the large variety of rock types and terrains near Tokyo, from exposed sea cliffs to shady crags that stretch under cedar and cypress forests, make it ideal for the sport.
On this 1+ day adventure, I will take you to the best crags for your level. On some, the routes are a bit short, up to 4 bolts, hard but still fantastic. On others, we will find excellent multi-pitch lines, both inland or on sea cliffs, that are mega fun for intermediate level climbers. Most of the crags are situated in deep cedar or cypress forests, where it isn’t too hot for climbing even in summer. We will choose the best one for you.
If you are looking for a more basic rock climbing program, I can also offer a course for beginners. To avoid common gym-to-crag mistakes, it is an ideal starting point for those who have already done indoor climbing or bouldering, but have little or no prior experience top-roping or climbing on natural rock. The 1-day course starts with safety basics, as well as the use of harnesses, tying knots, belaying skills, and of course, top-rope climbing techniques.
For intermediate to advanced climbers, 2 days are the best option, as you can tackle some harder problems or multi-pitch routes. Additionally, you will have a chance to improve your technical skills. Furthermore, you can spend the night at some excellent traditional accommodation with relaxing “onsen” (hot springs) and delicious Japanese food!
So, are you ready to go rock climbing in Tokyo? Then send a request, and I’ll be happy to help you organize your adventure!
You can also join me on a basic 2-day course on Mount Ogawa.

Mountain Guide
I’m an international IFMGA mountain guide; also the first non-Japanese mountain guide certified by the JMGA (Japan Mountain Guide Association); born in Slovenia.
My country is small but well known in the world as strong in sports and mountaineering. I used to compete as Olympic team member and on World Cup competitions as a Cross-country skier. After I left Slovenia and traveled all over the world, I ended up in Japan. I married a beautiful native lady, and have lived here for 30 years. I love Japanese mountains and feel privileged to be able to enjoy these mountains through the entire four seasons.
I’m based at the foot of Japan Alps; convenient place in winter for ski touring from Nagano to Hokkaido, winter mountaineering or ice climbing at Yatsugatake, and of course ascending the symbol of Japan Mt.Fuji.
In summer Japan is a great place for hiking, alpine climbing or popular shower-climbing and some fine sport/free climbing year around.
Since 2013, I’m working on NHK (Japanese national TV) programs, introducing Japan culture and outdoor activities, climbing skiing etc.
It is my absolute pleasure also to take and guide you in my home country, Slovenia. In addition to guide in the mountains, I also enjoy having the opportunity to teach mountain climbing skills to every level of climbers, here in Japan. This is because I wish everybody to be SAFE on the mountains. Please contact me on E&S if you would love to have great experience, as well as a tailor-made plan for other mountains and sport climbing all over SE Asia, EU, South America....in any season!

Reza
In the end our guide could not make the trip but he helped me hook up with a climbing legend Hide Suzuki. At 70+ he still moves effortlessly up the crag. Had a great day out climbing, talking and sharing stories.

We had a great day climbing with Cveto. He was responsive with communication prior to the day. He was very knowledgeable about climbing and the area. We found some fun routes and really enjoyed being out of the city for the day.

Cveto was really nice and knowledgeable about climbing. For someone who has never done outdoor climbing it was a great experience and I felt a lot safer having a veteran around
