Description

The Suesca Rocks are famous worldwide for being one of the best places to practice rock climbing. It is an activity suitable for all levels. In many cases, it’s also a starting point for a rock climbing tour around Colombia.

Thanks to its geological features, such as its high quality sandstone, the rocks of Suesca are a wonderful destination for climbers from all around the world. In addition, here you will find a style of climbing adjusted to your preferences. Its roofs, slaps and traditional routes offer us different itineraries in one single place.

Itinerary

Day 1: Guided rock climbing day in Suesca

  • 9:00 AM: meeting point in Suesca, Cundinamarca. We’ll drink something and check the equipment for the day;

  • 9:30 AM: Hiking to the rocky cliffs of Suesca;

  • 10:00 AM: We’ll choose the perfect climbing itineraries for you, according to the group level and expectations;

  • 5: 00 PM: We can have something to eat y celebrate our goals of the day.

  • 6:00 PM: Return to Bogota.

Optional: a transfer from Bogotá to Suesca and back can be added for ax extra cost of USD 105.-

Prices in Colombian Pesos (COP) are the following:

1 person: 200.000 COP 2 persons: 350.000 COP 3 persons 400.000 COP

The temperatures in Suesca are between 8 °C in the morning and 18 °C during the day. That's why I always suggest bringing warm and comfortable clothes, such as waterproof pants and jacket. You should also bring sunscreen, repellent, sunglasses, a bottle of water and comfortable and light shoes. A small backpack will be necessary as well as your personal climbing equipment (helmet and harness).

I am a beginner climber. Do I need any previous experience and training?

No previous experience is needed. We will decide the routes according to your skills and experience. We can make a easy tope-rope!

Will the equipment be provided or do I need my own?

All gear will be provided. You should only bring your shoes, helmet and harness.

How can I get to the meeting point?

You can take a bus.

What happens if it rains? Is it possible to go on another day?

Usually the rain is not problem because the rock location is dry, if we have a strong rain we can program the activity for a next day.

Where will we meet?

The meeting place is in a coffee/beer shop right at the entrance of the crag in Suesca.

We’re traveling light so we don’t have our shoes and harnesses. Can we borrow those from you or from somewhere in Suesca?

How can I get from Bogotá to Suesca?

Suesca is 60km away from Bogota, but it's a mountain road so driving there can take 1,5 to 2 hours, and traffic can get heavy. There are public buses that depart from the north bus station in Bogotá, that company start a service 6:00am until 10:30 pm every 20-30 minutes and from Suesca the last bus departs at 8:00 pm, the company name it's Alianza.

Which type of climbing will we do in Suesca?

In Rocas de Suesca there are more that 400 different routes in different styles: multi-pitch, single pitch, sport, trad, ranging from easy routes for beginners to hard grades for experts.

Should I stay in Suesca before and after the climb?

You can come from Bogotá to Suesca, either driving or by bus. But if you have the possibility of staying in Suesca, I recommend this because it will make the day more relaxed, as traffic can get pretty heavy between Bogotá and Suesca. I can recommend several places to stay in Suesca.

At what time will we start and end the activity?

We usually meet at 9am, and end the activity around 5pm.

What should I bring for the climbing day?

Besides proper clothes for climbing, make sure you bring water and food for the day.

IFMGA Mountain Guide from Colombia

I was born in Suesca, Colombia in 1986 and started rock climbing in 1999. I’ve been working as a rock climbing and mountain guide since 2006 at the Colombian Mountains, part of the Andes range.

I then continued my formation as a guide in Bolivia, and became UIAGM/IFMGA certified in 2013. I worked as a guide in the Andes in Peru, Bolivia and Colombia, and I also participated in international expeditions to Manaslu Mountain in the Himalayas and to Denali in Alaska.

Some Highlights:
