Climbing in El Chaltén means much more than climbing on Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Few minutes from the city there are several sport and traditional climbing routes for all levels.
That is why I would like to invite you to enjoy and learn the basic and / or advanced concepts of this activity in El Chaltén. It will be a nice rock climbing day full of energy and adrenaline!
I will help you find different types of routes in the vicinity of El Chaltén. For those who prefer sport climbing I can guide you on routes with fixed bolts.
And if you’d rather traditional climbing we can go for more challenging itineraries. In addition, during this full rock climbing day I will teach you some theoretical concepts that you will then put into practice on real walls.
Please find here below the content that you’ll learn or improve during this trip:
Brief talk about security procedures;
Rock quality in the place;
How to put the harness and its functions;
Different types of harnesses and their respective placement;
Basic technique of rock progression;
Progression at low altitude to gain confidence in the terrain;
Introduction on equipment for rock progression (rope, carabiners, helmet, etc.);
Basic knots;
Handling of ropes;
Rock climbing with a top rope;
Basic rock anchors.
The best period to fully enjoy this outdoor activity is during the Patagonian summer, from December till mid April. Keep in mind that although El Chaltén offers routes for all levels of climbers, a good fitness condition will be necessary.
Contact me now so you can book your places for next season. I will be happy to guide you on such an exciting experience in El Chaltén!

Based in El Chaltén, south Patagonia, since 2000. I was the first guide to complete the AAGM (Argentine Mountain Guides Association) complete training platform.
I did the first Argentinean guided ascent of Mt. Fitz Roy via Supercolouir route (la Supercanaleta). I have guided Aguja Guillaumet more than 25 times. I also guided Aconcagua, Alpamayo (Peru), Matterhorn (Switzerland), Mont Blanc, Dent du Geant (France), The Rockies & The Bugaboos (Canada), Torres del Paine (Chile), among others.
I am also member of El Chaltén Search and Rescue team. I have several WFR certificates with different schools such as NOLS & Fundacion Ecomed.
I speak Spanish, English and French fluently
My biggest passion is Alpine Rock climbing & Ski Mountaineering. Get in touch with me if you are interested in discovering the unique spots in the Fitz Roy massif, and other gems around El Chaltén! I work together with a group of guides, so if I'm not available when requested, one of my colleagues will guide you.
