The Bavarian region of Frankenjura is a mecca for rock climbing and home to the legendary climber of Wolfgang Güllich.
Located in the north of Bavaria, Frankenjura lies at the core of Central Europe.
Frankenjura has cultivated a top-class climbing culture and is one of the best areas for sport climbing in the whole of Europe, as well as being one of the largest climbing areas in Germany.
There are more than 10,000 routes available spread out across the gigantic area, with a collection of secluded crags, towers and cliffs.
The limestone rocks are characteristically pocketed, making for ideal climbing formations, including slabby and overhanging.
Climbing routes range from 8 to 30 meters, yet some even stretch to 40 meters. The average climbing route measures 25 meters.
The picturesque landscape also includes huge forested areas scattered with medieval villages. Here you can discover excellent locally brewed beer and traditional food.
