FAQs

How long does the activity take?

The tour lasts 4/5 hours.

What's included in the price?

The price includes the guiding fee, technical gear, and insurance. For the insurance you'll need to provide your name, birthdate and ID number.

Do you provide climbing shoes?

I advise bringing your own climbing shoes, as they will be more comfortable. If you don't own/have them with you, I will provide them for you (you'll have to tell me your shoe size).

Where's the meeting point and what's the meeting time?

Pick up will be at Parede train station at 9am, or if you're already in Cascais we can arrange differently. Time of pick up may change due to weather conditions, and might vary a bit depending on the time of the year, but you will be noticed in advance. If you're staying in Cascais I can pick you up at your place. If you have a car, we can meet at the crag, or close by. We always meet somewhere where parking is easy. I'll send you indications on how to get to the climbing crag and we will meet there.

What type of climbing will we find in Sintra-Cascais Natural Park?

In Sintra-Cascais Natural Park we can choose between sport climbing and traditional climbing (keep in mind that there are no traditional routes for beginners, so you need some previous experience for this).

And if you come with your family, check the kid-friendly trip I offer: https://www.explore-share.com/trip/family-friendly-rock-climbing-cascais-portugal/

Do I need to bring or rent climbing equipment?

You only need to bring your climbing shoes, I will provide the rest. If you don't own/have your shoes with you, I will provide them for you (you'll have to tell me your shoe size).

Is transport included? Do I need to have a car?

You don't need to have a car, I can pick you up and drop you off in Cascais train station. If you're staying in Cascais I can pick you up at your place. If you have a car, I'll send you indications on how to get to the climbing crag and we will meet there.

What do I have to bring on the day of the trip?

Just your climbing shoes if you have, and comfortable clothes for climbing (depending on the time of the year, consider also some warm/windproof jacket). Food is not included, so remember to bring also some snacks and water.

Is this trip suitable for beginners?

Yes! There are sport routes for all climbing levels, from complete beginners to advanced climbers.

Where will we go climbing?

Depending on your climbing level, the weather, and your expectations for the day, we can choose between several crags. Some options are Baia do mexilhoeiro or Farol da Guia in Cascais, or Penedo da Amizade in Sintra. Escola de escalada da Guia in Cascais is a popular limestone sea cliff, located in Cascais city at the very beginning of the natural park. But you can also check the other area in case you feel like visting it, its called Penedo da Amizade and its located in Sintra in the forest just under the moorish castle. It as great views, but its a granite crag and that means it isn't as "beginner friendly" as Guia is. Anyway it is a great climbing area.

Can I join a group for this trip?

I don't organize open groups for this trip, it's only open for private bookings. But in case there's someone else interested to join the trip on the same dates as you, we can put you together. Anyway, you'll see that the price difference is very small if you book just for you.

What's the meeting time the day of the eactivity?

The meeting time is usually 9am, but it might change due to weather conditions. You will be notified before hand.

Will we do abseiling?

Abseiling at the crag over the ocean (Escola de escalada da Guia in Cascais) is not possible. Usually I do that in Penedo which is located in Sintra.
