Description

If you’re looking for a wonderful hike to enjoy in Argentinean Patagonia, you’ve come to the right place. Follow me on this exciting trek along the ridge of Cerro Catedral to the Frey Hut, in Bariloche.

We’ll depart from the base of Cerro Catedral, the local ski center, and take the chairlift to the start of the trek. We’ll ascend to the ridge of the mountain and head towards Refugio Frey, the mountain hut. On the way, we’ll contemplate breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountain peaks, such as the snow-capped  Tronador. Additionally, we’ll get to observe a wide variety of alpine flora and beautiful birds, including the stunning Andean condor.

Once we finish the trek along the ridge, we’ll make our way into the Frey valley and descend to Schmoll Lake, with gorgeous crystalline waters. Then, we’ll reach Toncek Lake, where we’ll catch our first glimpse of the Frey Hut. During the winter months, these alpine lakes freeze over and you can walk on them.

While trekking, we’ll also admire some of the best geological formations in the area, such as the impressive granite walls and ridges.

At the Frey Hut, we’ll have the possibility to spend the night with full or half-board. This is highly recommended in winter. Alternatively, we can return on the same day through the Van Titter valley and across a wonderful Patagonian forest. We’ll find all types of plants and animals on the way back to the ski center.

As for the difficulty, this is an intermediate level route. Keep in mind, however, that the trek is more demanding during the winter months. If you plan to come during the colder season, you should have some prior experience on the snow and with the use of crampons, ice axe and snowshoes. It’s also very important to be comfortable with heights.

Ready for an unforgettable experience in Bariloche? Send a request and reserve your spot on this trek from Cerro Catedral to the Frey Hut. You won’t regret it!

I also lead a day hike to the nearby Cerro Goye from Colonia Suiza in Bariloche. Check it out!

Mountain Leader

My passion and love for the mountain has led me to become a lifeguard patrolman with a French degree, a mountain guide and a judge for freeride and freestyle mode in competitions.

My passion for mountain and skiing has led me to unique experiences fully lived. I worked as a refuge and logistics manager in several mountain huts. Since very young, I participated in the mountain youth school of Bariloche, Club Andino Bariloche (CAB). I am an assistant and ski instructor in winter and mountain guide in summer.

My first steps were in Cathedral ski resort, in the snow park sector. For six years, I have been combining winter seasons in Andorra working as an instructor and patrolman in different ski centers. I have training in snow study, rescue, Freeride Word Qualifiers (FWQ) jury and ski clinics.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

You’re simply the best!!! :))) Explore-Share made everything easy and stress-free. Will definitely use again.

Joshua

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
