Description

Step off the Strip of Las Vegas and into the surrounding countryside for an unbelievable hike to one of the nearby summits of Red Rock Canyon! This guided day hike will take you through classic Nevada landscapes to one of the terrific peaks in the area, like Mt. Wilson and Cactus Flower Tower, Whiskey Peak, and Juniper Peak!

Located in southern Nevada, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has become a popular destination for tourists and athletes alike. The compelling terrain and its iconic red-hued rock are visited by millions of travelers each year, and rock climbers flock to this spot just 25 kilometers from the city of Las Vegas for a little – or big – slice of desert adventure.

The mountains are challenging and thrilling, with panoramic rewards of Nevada’s unique landscape. The wilderness here is a geological masterpiece that is sure to make an impression on the most seasoned and ambitious trekkers. Red Rock has a long and illustrious history of flora, fauna, and humanity, so it offers a superb opportunity to immerse yourself in all aspects of this community and its culture.

This is where you come in! We will spend an entire day reaching one of these gorgeous mountains, utilizing hiking and scrambling techniques for a safe and satisfying journey. Many of the climbs do not require technical ascents, so we can choose from a ton of captivating climbs, each with their own intricacies and obstacles. It is safe to plan on trekking up to 1,200 meters, depending on our objective.

Your hike will begin early to give us plenty of time to take on the mountains of Red Rock, some of which exceed 2,000 meters. Mt. Wilson is the highest sandstone behemoth in Red Rock, standing tall at 2,155 meters. It has a jagged top and a few different ascents for an array of hiking options. One of its subpeaks, Cactus Flower Tower (1,937m), is well known in the region for its particularly challenging scramble to the top.

Other objectives include Whiskey Peak (1,573m) and Juniper Peak (1,862m), two visually stunning climbs that have some of the best views in Red Rock. Juniper Peak stands out as one of the most recognizable peaks in the area thanks to its proximity to the Scenic Drive. You will have adrenaline-pumping scrambles, incomparable views, and a fulfilling excursion to the top of the desert, all while gaining trekking experience in a notorious climbing mecca.

You should be prepared for a long day on the trail. The program is open to anyone with the fitness and mental fortitude to complete a day-long hike. Appropriately planning for the duration and coordination of the trek will give you the most from the experience.

I had a great day and a great experience

Joel was a great climbing guide! I was nervous climbing outside since it’s been awhile but the guide was extremely good with hearing my concerns and adapted to help me feel comfortable. We started climbing on a low grade and then worked our way to harder levels. I also didn’t feel comfortable leading outside so my guide (Joel) did that as well. Also, there is so much to climb at red rock that without a guide it would be really hard to figure out the routes. I had such a great time!! It’s so beautiful out there and the whole experience was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend this company and Joel as a guide!
