Join Edgar, an IFMGA certified mountain guide, in this 1-day Pasochoa Hiking tour. A perfect getaway to experience the beautiful ecuadorian highlands!

Andes

1 Day

All year

Description

Pasochoa Hiking tour is your opportunity to make a quick 1-day getaway from Quito, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the amazing views from its summit!

Since the Pasochoa Volcano is located really close to Quito, heading southeast, this is a perfect trip to do in one day. This extinct crater is today a Wildlife Sanctuary. Also it's part of the Ecuadorian National Protected Areas, with a 500 ha area.

So this Pasachoa Hiking tour will take you to its summit at 4200 m. Therefore you'll be able to spot the incredible snowed summits of Antisana, Cayambe, Illinizas and Cotopaxi. And even, if the day is clear, the great Chimborazo summit will make its appearance far down south!

The trip will start early in the morning. I'll pick you up in Quito and drive for an hour through the Andean highlands. The trail will begin at 3300 m. and we'll start walking through a beautiful primary Andean forest. This first part of the path is ideal for bird watching. We'll get to see lots of exotic hummingbirds!

Once we get higher I'll take you through a ridge cover by a deep forest. This is a beautiful feature because there has been no human intervention. So it remains very well conserved. Soon after we'll get to the summit at 4230 m. So the whole trip will last around 6 hours. And I'll drop you back in Quito late in the afternoon.

Please contact me to make this Pasochoa Hiking tour come true! And if you have something else in mind, you can check some of my other trips: Cotopaxi trek or Condor trek.

Mountain Guide

UIAGM/IFMGA-ASEGUIM Mountain Guide from Ecuador.

I am a mountain guide, but also a passionate traveler, climber in rock and ice, and photographer. I spend my free time and holidays exploring new destinations, discovering new mountains and cultures.

I have more than 27 years of experience climbing mountains and volcanoes not only in Ecuador, but also in other South American countries such as Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, and in the Alps in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Nepal. I also summited KhanTengri peak in the Himalayas, Aconcagua in los Andes and Mt. McKinley in Alaska. This experiences prepared me to lead expeditions in challenging routes all around the world.

I studied 6 years of Tourism in the University, and followed ASEGUIM courses to become a mountain guide. I’ve also been evaluated by ENSA, and completed first aid courses in the Ecuadorian Red Cross.

I like guiding people from all around the world, and help them discover and enjoy the mountains, while reaching their objectives. I speak Spanish, English, German, Italian, and a bit of Russian.

Edgar did not host this trip but Ivan (at least this is what i understood) did. The reason I am not adding more starts is mostly because the guide did not speak English very well what made it a long and rather silent day. The weather did not cooperate which pf course is something out.of the guides control. But rain made it harder to descend and the guide did not pay enough attention to me. Therefore I ended up in the mud above my ankles and the last part of the hike he was more then a 100 meters ahead of me and did not look back once. He tried to make it work, especially with the driving but overall it definitely could be better

The hole day was a great experience. The drive up was beautiful and fun. The walk and views were amazing it was one of the best things I've ever done. My guide Segundo was brilliant very knowledgeable and very caring making sure I was ok every step of the way. I would highly recommend this to anyone coming to Quito
