5 Days

Mar - Oct

Description

I have the immense honor to share with you this proposal. It’s a 5-day hut to hut guided ski tour in Ötztal.

As you may know, Ötztal is an alpine valley located in the Austrian lands of Tyrol. The mountains around this great valley are popular with both mountaineers and skiers. That is why Ötztal is considered one of the most popular ski touring spots of the Eastern Alps.

On the way to the Alpenhauptkamm you can also enjoy a variety of high summits. Among them, there are the amazing Similaun, Weißkugel and the Wildspitze. Moreover, we’ll start and end this ski tour at the Bergsteiger Dorf Vent, what makes this excursion a perfect round circuit.

Just after leaving Vent, the first great destination to see is the 3600-meter Similaun. However, this peak will be climbed on the second day after a night in the Similaun hut, at 3.019 meters of altitude. Then,  we continue by passing the Ötzifundstelle to the Schönen Aussichts hut, where even a sauna awaits us!

On the third day, it’s time for the White Ball (3.738 meters high). Afterwards, we’ll do a long descent to the Hochjochhospiz Hut (2.412 m).

The next day takes us over the escape creek to the 2755-meter Vernagt hut. The crowning end is the ascent of the Wildspitze (at 3.770 meter of height) and the 1.800-meter-long descent back to Vent!

The complete itinerary can be found at the bottom of this description. If you are wondering about the ski level, let me tell you that this ski touring area has slopes of no more than 30°. However, take into account we must walk about 7 hours per day so a good physical shape is really necessary.

So, if you are planning to come to Austria and are looking for a big ski touring trip, Ötztal is your destiny. Contact me now!

Itinerary

Day 1: NIEDERTAL SIMILAUN

Our meeting point will be Vent at 10:00 AM. Then, we start ascending to the Niedertal Similaun mountain hut (3.019 meters).

Day 2: SIMALAUN SUMMIT DAY

Early in the morning we’ll head to the 3600-meter peak of Similaun. First, we’ll pass Niederjochferner and then, the west ridge to the summit. After about 700 meters of negative altitude we’ll reach to the Hauslabjoch. From there a new short ascent will take us to the Hochjochferner Hut, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 3: WHITE BALL

Today it’s time to the White Ball. It is the second highest peak of Tyrol. After a short ascend we will reach the Hintereisferner. From this place we start the ascent to the White Ball, over the 1000 meters of altitude. During the last few meters we will need to use crampons. After descending through the Hintereisfer we’ll be at the Hochjochhospiz Hut (2.412 m). Overnight staying in there.

Day 4: SKIGIPFEL FLUCHTKOGEL

Our next goal will be the beautiful Skigipfel Fluchtkogel (at 3.500 meters). We’ll pass behind the Hochjochhospiz hut and after a short descent we’ll be  on the plateau of the Ferner wall. We continue along the east ridge of Fluchtkogel. The way down will be across the Winterjöchl.

Day 5: THE WILDSPITZE

The last day! Today we will ascend to the Wildspitze (3.768 m). It is the highest mountain of Tyrol! With a light baggage it goes up to the Brochkogeljoch (3423m) and over the Taschachferner to the Wildspitze. On the top we’ll have a great view of the Ötztal and the Venter-Runde. From now on it is almost downhill. Past the Vernaghütte, where we take our remaining luggage, we are heading towards our starting point Vent.
