If you are coming to Tierra del Fuego, Ojo del Albino Glacier and Laguna Esmeralda are must-see places! Don’t miss the chance of visiting these beautiful spots in the southernmost province in Argentina.
Our adventure will start at 8.30 am in Ushuaia, the capital city of Tierra del Fuego. We’ll go through the Andean Patagonian Forest towards the Laguna Esmeralda.
This beautiful lake is located in the middle of a valley and surrounded by two mounts: Cerro Bonete (1,120 m) and Cerro Pelado (930 m). That is why you won’t be able to see the lagoon until the very end. As Laguna Esmeralda is hidden in the mountains, it is a beautiful surprise that you’ll admire once you reach a certain altitude to contemplate it from above.
Afterwards, we’ll follow the Esmeralda River and reach the Ojo del Albino Glacier. With around 1000 meters of altitude, Ojo del Albino belongs to the Sierra Alvear and it is a very popular place in Tierra del Fuego. When we get to the base of the glacier, we’ll put our crampons on to walk through it. Then, we’ll have the pleasure to have lunch while contemplating the incredible mountains of the area, Laguna Esmeralda included!
Please, keep in mind that this hike can be challenging and has a duration of 10 hours. Therefore, to have a good physical condition is a requirement. It is also important to bring comfortable clothing and trekking boots.
This hike to Ojo del Albino Glacier is a wonderful way to spend a different day. Send your request now and come to explore this beautiful area at the end of the world.
You can also take a look at my half-day trek in Martial Glacier, Tierra del Fuego.

Gabriel was a terrific guide for Cinco Hermanos, which provides amazing views of Ushuaia and the surrounding mountain ridges and valleys. After a pleasant trail through the forest, you cross the main creek and ascend the benches below the peaks. After that we enjoyed terrific alpine climbing with steep snow, sometimes greater than 50 degrees. Route finding was a bit challenging, and the selection of the right gulley can greatly determine which hermano you are climbing. We ultimately summitted Hermano Cinco. Ghanks to Gabriel for sharing so much information about the mountains and culture of the region.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
