Kōkeʻe State Park, located in northwestern Kauaʻi in the Hawaiian Islands, is a great spot for hiking. Come with us and explore this unique area via the Nu’ alolo Trail!
The Nuʻalolo Trail is a 3.8 miles trek which begins at an elevation of 3,660 feet at the edge of a tropical rainforest. The first part of the trail is uphill through a beautiful forest with typical hawaiian vegetation such as koa trees and naupaka plants. The rest of the way is downhill and ends on an open arid ridge at the Lolo Point lookout. This multicolored section offers some amazing views of the Na Pali Coast and surroundings.
Located on a plateau between 3,200 and 4,200 ft, the main attractions of Kōkeʻe State Park are the native flora, the scenic cliffside views and the native birds. Pay attention to I’iwi and elepaio, you will love their singing!
Additionally, after the hike we can also visit the Koke’e lodge, which serves delicious food. And, we can go to the Koke’e Museum, where we will learn about the natural history and topography of the area.
Keep in mind this 4-hour hiking trip is not for beginners. The trail has some steep sections that can be very slippery when wet. Consequently, you will need some hiking experience and a good physical condition. Of course, we will be there to help you when the going gets rough.
So, if you are up for great day of hiking in the highlands of Koke’e, please contact us! We’ll be glad to guide you through the amazing Nu’ alolo Trail.
We offer a lot of outings around Kauai. For example, you can check out our Napali Coast Hiking day or our 1-day Mahaulepu Coast hike.
