Northern Carros de Foc splitboarding 4 day traverse

A great 4 day adventure on splitboards for those who prefer a shorter version of the legendary Carros de Foc route in the Pyrenees. Your guide will be local IFMGA-certified Jon.

Description

Today I bring an interesting alternative to the traditional Carros de Foc route, one of the most popular routes in the Pyrenees. Although it is usually done in 5 days, I offer a shorter version for those who don’t have too much time in the area.

Visiting the key huts and enjoying the best powder runs as the normal route, we’ll make the tour in only 4 days.

With our splitboards on, we’ll travel through the Aigües Tortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. It’s a Catalan mountain area with peaks over 3000 meters in height and around 200 lakes.

The starting point of this northern Carros de Foc expedition will be Arties. From there we will visit important mountain huts such as Ventosa, Estany Llong and Saboredo.

Each day we will also have optional ascents such as Montardo (2833 m), La Creu de Colomers (2896 m) or Pic de Portarró (2736 m). These ascents imply a climb up on splitboards to then enjoy a long snowboard descent to the next mountain refuge.

Personal equipment recommended:

Complete ski equipment. – 40L backpack, with ski stripes. – Thermal underwear. – warm jacket. – GoreTex jacket and pants. – Hood, gloves (2 pairs) and googles. – Snacks (on the mountain huts we'll only have breakfast and dinner). – Warm sack if desired (on the mountain huts there will be blankets). – Sunscreen and lip balm. – Basic toilet kit. – Personal first aid kit. – Thermos. – Cash (many mountain hut don´t take credit cards). – Mountain federate card.
