Description

There are a lot of different ways you can enjoy the Niseko skiing area on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. On this 2 day trip, I want to guide you through the more challenging, backcountry skiing option, which forgoes the use of ski lifts in favour of hiking to the top of the chosen descents. While on the second day you will get to experience an even more challenging excursion, backcountry skiing down the beautiful Mount Yotei (1,898m).

The scenery you will get to admire throughout this adventure is spectacular, especially during the hikes. Whether its sunrise or sunset, the Niseko area, with Mount Yotei looming above, is mesmerising. And when blanketed with snow, it is even more impressive. However, the real highlight of this trip will be the skiing itself. There will be descents from several peaks, not just Mount Yotei, and each one is different. Thus providing you with several completely unique experiences. The powder of the slopes is deep and plentiful, and the private nature of the trip will allow you to enjoy the experience in a more intimate environment.

Each day of this trip will start at approximately 8:00 am and end at approximately between 3:00 pm. There is also an optional photo session included as well. Furthermore, unlike many trips of this nature, the 2 days of this adventure do not have to be enjoyed consecutively. Instead, you can space them out however you please.

Of all the trips offered in the Niseko area, I believe this one appeals most to people who are looking for a more challenging experience. So if you are an experienced off-piste skier, and are physically up to the task, then this is the trip for you.

Send me a request if you would like to join me.

I also offer a similar 2 day private trip, but instead of backcountry skiing there is sidecountry skiing in Niseko, as you will be using the ski lifts.

What people are saying about Japan

Jun is a responsible and reliable guide. He is also knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna and managed to show us quite a few interesting alpine flowers, birds and animals. He is kind and helpful and converses well in English. I will not hesitate to recommend him to any anyone needing an English speaking guide in Japan.

As for Kikuo-san, we both really liked her.  She is very pleasant.  A bit quiet spoken in a good way.  She obviously knows the Akan region very well, as she lives inside the national park.  She has very responsible and well organised.  I would have her guide us again, when we go back to the area.

Just back from Hakuba –Japan and I’m so pleased to confirm we got such a great experience with Iwao who has provided a service above all expectations. Indeed assisting a family confronted to a new environment requires a certain level of patience and attention and all the family appreciated his sense of responsibilities and seriousness which allowed us to really enjoy this region by experiencing touring, hicking and of course skiing in immaculate powder. Iwao was very discreet but always acted to ensure we could take the best of all Hakuba mountains could offer to us during these 5 days. This experience will for sure remain in all our minds for long and this will be mainly thanks to Iwao ! Best, Arnaud
