Description

Come explore the Balkans with me on this day-hike where we’ll reach the rooftop of the Balkan Peninsula and capture Musala, its highest peak!

Located in Rila Mountain in Bulgaria, Musala stands at an imposing height of 2,925m. The sixth highest mountain in Europe, it is surrounded by multiple glacial lakes and hot springs.

The trip takes us on a spectacular trail where we’ll enjoy exceptional views alongside the peace and solitude of the mountains. And what makes it even more popular is the fact that it can be accessed throughout the year.

We’ll begin in the capital city of Sofia and head towards the famous ski resort of Borovets.

Taking the cabin lift, we’ll rise up the high mountain. Our hike will start from the last stop of the cabin. From here, we’ll set on our journey towards the Musala mountain hut to take a short break. The hut is located in a picturesque setting near pristine lakes.

Thereafter, we’ll continue ascending to reach the ice lake of Ledeno Ezero and the nearby refuge named after the lake. This lake lies just below the spectacular mount Musala. From here begins our final push towards the summit.

And after a thrilling hike, we’ll reach the top and it is no less than an accomplishment! Standing so high, you’ll not only feel a sense of exhilaration but will also be rewarded with unobstructed views of the Balkan peninsula.

After taking a picture or two, we’ll descend to our starting point in Borovets. And before heading back to Sofia, we’ll halt at a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious regional meal.

Doesn’t this trip sound like everything you had dreamt of? So, get in touch now to experience the unlimited thrill on this day hike to the Musala peak in the Balkans.

I also guide this day hike to the top of Vihren, the highest peak in the Pirin Mountains.
