Are you looking for an unforgettable mountain bike trip? Then join me for this amazing adventure through the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage route!
Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of Saint James, extends from different countries to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia, Spain. This was one of the most important Christian pilgrimage routes during the Middle Ages, and a lot of people still explore it as a spiritual experience today.
But above all, this is one of the most famous biking tours in the the world. It crosses a beautiful region with varied landscapes and many historical spots. On this 8-day trip (6 of biking) we will explore the last section of the French Way, from the Cathedral of León to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
The French Way, a UNESCO World Heritage, is the most popular route of Camino de Santiago. On its last 300km we will cross amazing areas such as Puente de Órbigo, Cruz del Ferro, Os Ancares, Biduedo, among others, before reaching Santiago de Compostela. You can see the complete itinerary below. However, we can adapt it to the physical conditions of the group!
So, if you are up for this spectacular mountain bike trip in Camino de Santiago, please get in touch with me. I’ll be glad to be your guide on this awesome experience!
I also offer amazing multi-day hiking trips in Spain. Check out, for example, my trips in Ordesa National Park and in Val d’ Aran.
Transfer to the starting point. Tour briefing. Time for questions.
Comfortable ride to start the tour. Soft
ground on the way to Milla del Páramo. We will reach Puente de Órbigo and the Church of San Juan Bautista (XVII Centhury).
A stage with a distinct road. In the first part we will gain elevation to end in Cruz del Ferro (1.500m), the highest point in the Spanish-French way. Here we will find another chapel consecrated to Santiago the Apostle. From there we will descend towards Ponferrada.
This might be one of the best-known stages in the whole pilgrimage. We start among vineyards to leave Castilla y Leon and enter Galicia through the region of Os Ancares, with beautiful landscapes. For that we will ascend O Cebreiro, the pass that divides both regions. It is an
attractive stage, where we will discover magical villages like Pereje, Trabadelo, the Church of
Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the Serracín Castle (S.XV Y XVI) located on a hill.
Most of the way we will descend crossing a landscape with more vegetation than the ones in Castilla. We will also visit the Church of San Esteban, the Church of San Xoán and the Chapel of San Pedro, in the village of Biduedo. From Triacastela we can choose between two fascinating itineraries: Samos Benedictine Monastery though a beautiful forest. Finally,Sarria is a good place to finish the journey, with a nice pilgrim’s atmosphere and a place
for relaxing and meditation, but also to share experience with other people.
It is a varied stage with many interesting stops to take a break in some Romanesque villages. You will not want to miss the chance to
visit the parish of Concello de Sarria, Ferreiros and its Church of Santa María, and Portomarín.
We will cross Sierra de Ligonde and Mount San Antonio. We can visit the Church of San Salvador. From Palas de Rei the road will become more windy. Visit to
Romanesque churches of Santa María, the Nurses House and the Chapel of San Roque.
We will reach the beautiful city of
Santiago de Compostela and enjoy its views from the watchtower on the Mount Gozo . In the heart of the city we visit the Baroque Cathedral and the Obradoiro.
End of the adventure!
