Description

Mount Shasta is a potentially active volcano located in Siskiyou County, California. It has a volume of about 85 cubic miles (350 km3), which makes it the most voluminous stratovolcano in the Cascade Range. Mountaineers from all over the world come here to climb this peak. In this 3-day tour we will get to its summit via the Hotlum Bolam ridge.

The Hotlum-Bolam Ridge is the perfect route for intermediate mountaineers and is probably the most popular alternative to Avalanche Gulch during the summer. We will find comfortable and scenic camping options, and enjoy amazing views of the Bolam and Hotlum glaciers, and the Shasta Valley.

Mount Shasta is home to several glaciers such as Whitney, the longest in the state, reaching a length of about 2 miles. Hotlum is the biggest in terms of volume and surface area. While climbing this imposing peak, you will enjoy a beautiful natural scenery.

Mount Shasta’s geological activity provides some additional mystique to this trip. The most recent eruption was in 1786, but volcanic gases seep from the summit indicating a still hot system.
