Mount Logan (5,959m) is located in southwestern Yukon, in the Kluane National Park. It is Canadaâs highest peak, and I would like to guide you on an epic ski mountaineering expedition to discover it!
This impressive mountain is part of the St. Elias ranges. We will follow the Kingâs Trench route. It is an adventurous path, partly because of the isolation factor.
In fact, the route to North Americaâs second highest summit is very similar to the one taken to the summit of the mythical Denali, in Alaska. However, in the case of Mount Logan, there is no steep climbing or fixed ropes involved. Hence making it an easier climb.
It is important to acclimatize properly as the altitudes are very high. Therefore, there will be a moderate altitude difference between successive camps.
The expedition starts in Whitehorse, in Yukon, with a one-hour flight, to the base of the Kingâs Trench route (2800m). The views during the flight are breathtaking, and will give you a glimpse of what we will enjoy during the rest of the trip. We will set up camp at the Quintino Sella glacier. Then we ascend on skis over the next 5-6 days to the Advanced Base Camp (4000m). The advanced base camp is located at the pass between King Peak and the Logan massif. We will rest for a day and then continue our ascent. We will set the next camp at 5500m. This will be the base for our summit attempt.
Finally, from the summit the descent on our skis will take two exciting days. You will never forget this unique experience!
This is a demanding expedition, and you need an excellent physical condition to be part of it. Besides ski touring experience, you also need backpacking and multi-day climbing experience as well. The itinerary includes travelling on glaciers, and for this activity we will be using ropes, but you donât need prior experience.
Tempted to be part of this unforgettable expedition? Then make sure to send me a request, so we can start planning the details!
And if you were looking for something exciting but slightly less adventurous, check out this backcountry ski tour option in Whistler.

We actually had a different guide (Les) but couldnt have been more impressed. He was super knowledgeable and helpful. Very patient and his timing for our day was excellent. Whistler is of course beautiful and it was a wonderful introduction to the back country.
