Monviso, 2-day ascent from Paesana (Piedmont) with overnight in the Quintino Sella Hut

Situated in the Cottian Alps, near the border with France, Monviso is an Italian peak that reaches 3,841 meters of altitude. It’s a very wild mountain that shows an impressive pyramidal shape. On the first day of the ascent, we’ll meet in Paesana, a commune in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, and check our equipment. Afterwards, we’ll drive to Pian del Re and ascend to the Quintino Sella Hut, our accommodation for the night.

The second day of the program will begin at night, and we’ll head to Sagnette Pass and enjoy a nice via ferrata. Then, we’ll continue our ascent through the Forciolline Valley to the Bivouac Andreotti, at an altitude of 3,275 meters. At this point, we’ll begin the most challenging section of the climb and face several walls to finally reach the summit. From the top, we’ll have the pleasure to see spectacular views of the Monte Rosa Massif and the sea. Then, we’ll take the same route for the descent.

As for each day’s duration, consider that we’ll spend 3 hours on the activity during the first day, and 10 hours on the second. The weather is usually cold in the morning and night, and windy and sunny during the day. In the summer, it’s usually foggy in the evening.

Regarding accommodation, we’ll spend the night in the Quintino Sella Hut, at the foot of the mountain’s east wall. Please, keep in mind that it’s mandatory for this ascent to have good hiking training and a minimum of mountaineering experience.
