This McKenzie Mountain guided day hike in Lake Placid will take you to the highest peak in the Adirondack Mountains.
Mckenzie Mountain (3822 ft) is located in western Essex County, in the McKenzie Mountain Wilderness area, in upstate New York. It’s the highest of the 46 peaks that form the Adirondack Mountain massif. It’s known in the Saranac Lake area because it’s very recognisable for its two peaks on the summit.
There are a few options to approach it and the most common is a 7.2 mile round-trips that starts in the Whiteface Inn trailhead.
Although it’s a challenging hike with half a mile of very steep, wet, and eroded trail, the views from its summit are worth it! You’ll be able to admire the scenery from the Whiteface Mountain in the north all the way to the south where Mount Marcy is located.
