Manaslu trek, 12 days trekking in Nepal

Situated on the eastern edge of the Annapurna conservation area, in central Nepal, the Manaslu trek winds through some of the country's most pristine mountain scenery as well as numerous traditional villages.

Until recently, the only way to do the trek was to head out on a three-week excursion, winding along various routes and passing by the iconic Mount Manaslu, before returning to the starting point.

However, we were able to find an abbreviated route, using our local knowledge of trails and teahouses, which allows visitors on a tighter schedule to enjoy the same stunning scenery as those who take the three-week option.

The adventure begins after we meet up in Kathmandu and transfer to Soti Khola and then on to Machha Khola, which is where the fun really begins.

One of the trade offs with shortening the trek is how steep the it becomes. Each day, expect to climb between 400 and 900 vertical meters, until we reach Dharmashala at 4,405 meters.

However, the incredible views that we will get along the way will be more than worth it. Expect to enjoy stunning views of roaring rivers, thick forests, sublime mountain vistas (including great views of Annapurna), mysterious caves and ancient monasteries.

Along the way, we will also get the chance to explore several traditional and multiethnic villages. While we're visiting these villages, we'll have time to meet the people and learn a bit about their way of life in this remote corner of the world.
