Alps
1 Day
Jun - Oct
The Aiguille d’Entrèves is a great mountaineering traverse along the French and Italian borders. It’s not too difficult at a technical level and offers breathtaking views of the south side of Mont Blanc du Tacul, Brenva and Tour Ronde.
This one-day trip starts at Courmayeur, from where we will take the cable car up to Pointe Helbronner. From there, we will put our crampons on to traverse the Giant Glacier towards Col Flambeaux. Our next goal will be Col d’Entreves (3517m) and, from there, the Aiguille d’Entrèves summit (3604m).
On the way down, we will make a quick stop at the Torino hut for a well-deserved refreshment.
You need to have a very good physical condition and also have some mountaineering experience to attempt this ascent. Although it can be done in just one day, the last stretch to the summit becomes more and more technical and steep.
The views from the top, however, are a magnificent reward. They are worth all the effort!
Please get in touch with us if this Aiguille d’Entrèves ascent interests you. It is a great way to get to know one of the most beautiful massifs in Europe. So contact us and we’ll start organizing your trip to this beautiful area.
What experience and how fit do I need to be to climb this mountain? Is this program suitable for children or older people?
The Aiguille d’Entrèves is a sharp and exposed rocky ridge climbing itinerary in one of the most spectacular scenario of Mont Blanc Massif: as all mixed climbing routes, it requires some recent previous mountaineering experience, especially a good confidence in rock climb and some ability in progression on short rope on exposed and steep terrain.
It is not suitable to beginners with any recent previous climbing and mountaineering experience, but we can suggest you some good alternative options, if you are interested in try a similar experience at your level!
About physical fitness, the ridge climbing could be done in 1 day, but it could be a challenging experience, with considerable effort (at least 5/6 hours of climb), in particular if you have never been on a glacier or over 3.000meters of altitude.
If you are at your first experience on a rocky ridge, we suggest you to take a look to the Aiguilles des Marbrées, as more suitable experience, especially for beginners or entry level climbers. Here you have the link to this trip: https://www.explore-share.com/trip/climbing-aiguille-des-marbrees-one-day/
How far in advance should I start training and what kind of training do you suggest?
We recommend a minimum of training to improve your endurance and your cardiovascular fitness before the trip (running, hiking, biking). At the same time, if you can get some climbing practices the adventure will be easier.
Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment, and if so, what would be the approximate cost of that?
You need to have your personal technical equipment, that is essential to face this climb:
If you don't have the required equipment, we can rent it for 30€ per person. Please advise in advance if you need any gear for renting: the Guide will bring it at the meeting point.
In addition, the Guide will bring the common safety gear, such as rope, ice screws, daisy chains and carabiners.
Please check and bring is your personal mountaineering clothing, including technical mountaineering boots, that must be waterproof, with rigid sole, warm and comfortable (NO hiking boots or running shoes, like jumpers/sneakers or similar will be allowed for this climbing!).
Trekking poles could be useful for the approach on the glacier: if you don’t have yours, we can provide for you.
After your booking confirmation, we will send a complete and detailed list of recommended equipment and clothing and, if you need anything for renting, we will recommend some shops where you can hire the necessary gear. Boots renting is around 20-22€/day, trekking poles are 8-10€/day.
What happens in the event of bad weather?
Please consider that weather and conditions can change unexpectedly and, especially in recent years due to climate change, there are not always the best conditions for a safe ascent. In such cases, because your and our safety is our priority, we will propose an alternative trip to nearby mountains with better conditions. Note that you are booking our availability for the duration of the tour, this means that it will not be possible to cancel due to poor conditions. We will be careful to arrange an experience that lives up to your expectations. We understand that this may be a frustrating outcome, however, safety is a top priority, and every mountain has a lesson to teach.
Are there any other special requirements such as permits/insurance/vaccines that we need to consider before the tour?
Yes, there are several special requirements that you need to consider for this trip. Here are some of them:

If you are a group of more than 2 people, we have more Guides available to undertake the adventure: we will be happy to support your group with other professionals of our team!
