Description

Come climb with us in the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California! As one of the most densely concentrated climbing areas (per square mile) in the state, it is sure to have a perfect climb – or 20 – for you!

Set in the California desert of the western United States, Joshua Tree National Park attracts tourists and travelers all year round for a number of outdoor activities. The climate and geology are equally unique and inviting for those in search of a compelling experience in nature.

The park itself covers an area larger than Rhode Island, and its vastness provides different ecosystems at varying elevations. Rocky outcroppings are common, and some of the geoformations are dated as far back as 1.7 billion years. Joshua Tree is home to six different mountain ranges as well.

And while camping, hiking, and astronomy are popular among visitors to the park, adventurers come for the rocks and the ability to climb them. The volume of routes is more than impressive; they are generally short, so you can make multiple runs in a day over new and exciting climbs.

The granite has escaped the polish of the elements, like snow and rain, which takes its toll on other locations. This means the rough quartz monzonite is a phenomenal rock for climbing. And because of the massive size of the park and the number of routes, there are plenty of beginning, intermediate, and advanced climbing courses. There are single-pitch and multi-pitch options for everyone.

Access to climbing is also fairly easy. This trip will ensure you have the most time out on the rocks as possible, so you can dedicate the majority of your day to having a blast in this incredible environment!

We have extensive experience guiding in the region, and I can find a program tailored just for your skills and abilities. If you want the opportunity to climb all day and gain experience on a high number of routes, we will make sure you come back from Joshua Tree excited and ready to plan for your next trip.

There are courses for everyone. For the more challenging levels, any prior climbing experience will be an asset.

Stop waiting and start BOOKING this trip to Joshua Tree! You won't regret getting your hands dirty at one of California’s most iconic rock climbing destinations!

We can also take you a little further into the Sierra Nevada mountains for some beautiful alpine climbing on some of the most iconic granite peaks in the United States, topping out over 14,000'! Or we can stick around San Diego for some single-pitch climbing at Mission Gorge!

FAQs

I have experience with sport climbing and am interested in learning multi pitch climbing. Is this the right trip?

Yes! If you are in LA, the best place to learn multi-pitch climbing is Joshua Tree. We could also get you out in San Diego at El Cajon Mountain if this interests you. That may be further than going to Joshua Tree though but it's a option. ECM is a great, multi pitch bolted wall.

What should we expect for the day in terms of time and itinerary?

Your timeframe will be 8am - 4pm unless you need to change this at all, and we'll meet at the West Entrance visitor center. This is a private outing so your guide will reach out ahead of time to get a better feeling of exactly what you are looking for in the day.

What's included in the price? Will the equipment be provided or do I need my own?

Price includes any climbing equipment you may need (harness, helmet, shoes), and your professionally trained guide for the day. Pricing does not include the entrance fee to the park,

Are you offering other outdoor/adventure activities in the area of Mission Gorge in San Diego?

What types of climbs are available in Joshua Tree?

Joshua Tree features both single-pitch and multi-pitch routes. Climbs vary from easy to very challenging, making it suitable for climbers of all levels. The majority of routes are short, allowing for multiple climbs in a day.

Do I need prior climbing experience? Are there options for beginners?

While prior climbing experience is beneficial, it is not always required. Joshua Tree has a wide range of routes for beginners. There are many routes that are perfect for those new to climbing, and with guided programs available, even those with little experience can enjoy climbing safely and effectively. Intermediate and advanced climbers can explore more challenging routes with the help of experienced guides.

What other climbing options and areas are available?

Beyond Joshua Tree, I can also guide you to the Sierra Nevadas for a climb up Mt. Sill or take you to Mission Gorge in San Diego for some single-pitch climbing.

Patrick took me out to the Indian Cove! Loved the short approach and couldn’t asked for better weather. Patrick recommended great pitches where I could try new stuff like chimneying. Would definitely book again if I go back to JTree!

Angela

We had an excellent time with Chad on our multi -pitch day in Joshua Tree. My partner and I have some experience climbing sport routes, but had no experience with trad climbing or multi-pitch routes. Chad is a great instructor and led our routes with ease. We felt confident in his abilities to keep us safe and have fun. Will definitely book again with him.

We booked through Ryan, and Daniel was our guide - absolutely brilliant, very down to earth and knowledgeable. The climbs themselves were awesome, with insane views. My partner is an experienced indoor climber, and I have close to no experience, especially outdoors, but still felt safe and in good hands. We did a half day, which was 5hrs, and got 4 climbs in, then stayed after the tour to walk around a bit more and have some snacks with a view (make sure you take food/water as there aren’t any shops inside the park). Definitely recommend.
