Join me on this enjoyable introduction to outdoor rock climbing in the Cataract Gorge, Launceston, Tasmania, as we abseil and top rope climb around some of the loveliest countryside that Tasmania has to offer, with the granite rock we climb on looming over the tranquil, idyllic and sublime waterways and native vegetation.
The Cataract Gorge is located approximately 1.5km from the centre of Launceston, the 2nd largest city on the Australian island state of Tasmania. The gorge is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state, and is increasingly gaining a reputation as an outdoor activity hot spot.
Our trip meets in Launceston, and from there we head to Cataract Gorge to begin our climbing in earnest.
We begin with an exciting abseil off one of the cliffs overlooking the water, providing a scenic backdrop to proceedings.
After getting the hang of the abseiling we then move on to the Trackside Buttress, where we put our top rope climbing skills to the test in this majestic and awesome setting.
Our day finishes with a slightly challenging yet rewarding abseil and climb on Feltham Buttress, combining the 2 skills we have previously worked on, providing an immense feeling of satisfaction at having seen our improvement throughout the day.
Make sure you bring a camera along for the day, as the sweeping and sumptuous views out over the magnificent Tasmanian landscape, scenery and terrain are truly amazing.
Our trip finishes when he had back to Launceston, weary and content at having rock climbed in this exquisite region of Australia.
