Description

Head west to the heart of Southern California and begin your exciting career as a rock climber! This guided introduction to rock climbing course gives you two days in the stunning Joshua Tree National Park and provides the basic skills you will need to take your climbing abilities to new heights!

Just two and a half hours east of Los Angeles, Joshua Tree National Park has held an illustrious place in art and culture because of its unique landscape and rare California beauty. As one of the most popular parks in the Western United States, spanning an area of roughly 790,636 acres, it should come as no surprise that it harbors an eclectic mix of assorted ecosystems with fascinating flora and fauna, two deserts, and a mountain range all within its borders.

Your program places you in the middle of its rare geology to learn the ropes of rock climbing on a multi-day course designed for beginners. The guided program will cover the essentials of rock climbing, including planning a trip, using and storing equipment, movement on the rock, rope work, and so much more. After two days of captivating instruction, you will be able to make exciting ascents and take on challenging objectives.

We will begin the day early, meeting at the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center, so you get the most out of the program. After a short briefing and paperwork, we will head into the park for the course. Based on our local knowledge and your goals, we will find the perfect place to begin the climbing lessons. Our programs are always focused on safe and fun climbing to ensure you have a blast in a comfortable environment.

This program is the best way to build a foundation to progress as a climber. We will test your newly acquired skills on great climbs as we go, making sure that you can enjoy the practical application of the techniques. No experience is necessary, so we encourage everyone who wants to learn how to rock climb to join.

The Pinto gneiss and granite geology of Joshua Tree is unusual and special, particularly for rock climbers.  There are bouldering circuits, single-pitch routes and walls, and extensive multi-pitch routes to various summits. While this introductory program will focus on basics, there are a number of possible lines to choose from to make your education on the rock both informative and exhilarating.

You should have enough fitness to safely and comfortably enjoy a couple of days of climbing. The most important asset is a passion for the sport and a desire to learn how to take on the rock. This is a great way to stay active, exercise, and spend time with friends in the beautiful outdoors of the California desert, with the added perk of unplugging from the day-to-day life for a bit.
